Disney has released an all-new trailer for the live-action Moana trailer, and you can watch it here.
The new trailer has revealed the first look at Dwayne Johnson as Maui in the live-action Moana remake. Johnson voiced the demigod in the 2016 animated film, following adventurous teenager Moana, who embarks on a journey to return the heart of goddess Te Fitti from Maui, a demigod, after the plants and the fish on her island start dying due to a blight.
Catherine Lagaʻaia stars as Moana in the reimagining of the beloved animated film, with Johnson reprising his role as the trickster demigod Maui. The live-action is directed by Emmy and Tony award-winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and is produced by Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, Beau Flynn, Hiram Garcia, and Lin-Manuel Miranda; and executive produced by Kail, Scott Sheldon, Charles Newirth, and Auliʻi Cravalho, who voiced Moana in the animated films. The film features original songs by Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi, and Mark Mancina, and an original score composed by Mancina.
The cast also includes John Tui as Chief Tui, Moana’s father; Frankie Adams as her mother, Sina; and Rena Owen as her beloved Gramma Tala.
The animated movie, released ten years ago, was a critical and commercial success, grossing $643 million at the global box office, with the film being nominated for best animated feature at the Oscars, as well as Miranda receiving a nomination for the original song ‘How Far I’ll Go.’
Moana sails into cinemas July 10th.
