With Canadian airlines resuming their service to Puerto Vallarta and other destinations following an outbreak of violence after an operation by the Mexican government against a major drug cartel, key Mexican tourism organizations are providing updates on the situation.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) reported that Guadalajara Airport operated at 96% of its scheduled flights, while Puerto Vallarta Airport operated at 95% of its scheduled flights yesterday (Feb. 24, 2026).
Domestic and international airlines have gradually restored their itineraries at both terminals, following two days of delays and cancellations.
Airport officials said that it’s important to note that the flights currently canceled are part of the itinerary reactivation process. All airlines are now operating normally, and both terminals remain safe spaces for passengers, employees, and users, supported by the presence of the National Guard (GN), which maintains reinforced preventive security measures within the facilities.
Terminal buildings, operational areas, and access roads are functioning efficiently, ensuring the continuity of airport services and proper passenger assistance.
And GAP reaffirms its commitment to safety and operational excellence, maintaining passenger well-being as the central focus of all its actions.
JALISCO
Officials are advising that the State Government is reporting that order and security have been restored in the main tourist areas of Jalisco, including Puerto Vallarta and the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, thanks to the coordination and permanent presence of security forces from all three levels of government.
There is currently a strong operational presence from the Navy (Secretaría de Marina), National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), National Guard, and the State Public Security Secretariat. This has allowed for the partial recovery of mobility and has guaranteed conditions of calm for residents and visitors.
And the statement says that the government of Jalisco is moving speedily toward the full normalization of economic, tourism, and social activities, and remains under permanent surveillance to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors.
LOS CABOS – NOT IMPACTED
The Los Cabos Tourist Board provided its own update, and is making it crystal clear that the destination has not experienced any operational impact, and all destination operations remain fully normal, including:
- Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) continues to operate on a normal schedule.
- No disruptions to hotel operations, ground transportation, or visitor services.
- Baja California Sur and Los Cabos were not named in any U.S. Embassy security alert.
- The U.S. State Department advisory for BCS remains at Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution. No changes have been issued.
And the update states that Los Cabos operates under a permanent, coordinated security framework maintained by municipal, state, and federal authorities in active partnership with the hotel sector and key tourism industry organizations. This year-round operational structure is designed to proactively and consistently protect residents and visitors.
The Los Cabos Tourism Board team continues to:
- Monitor real-time updates and sentiment analysis across media outlets, government advisories, and social channels
- Coordinate actively with airport, airline, and hotel partners to ensure operational alignment and accurate information
- Support proactive and reactive communications on behalf of the Hotel Association, hotels, and industry partners
- Reinforce clear geographic distinction messaging, confirming that Baja California Sur and Los Cabos are separate from the affected states
And the tourist board also makes it clear that Los Cabos is located in Baja California Sur, a separate state from where these events are occurring, physically separated from mainland Mexico by the Sea of Cortez. The U.S. Department of State has not changed its advisory for this region. All destination operations are fully normal.
