Joey Graceffa First Appeared On The Amazing Race 22, Later Appearing On The Amazing Race: All-Stars
Graceffa is a YouTube personality who first started uploading videos to the platform in 2007. Since then, he has had multiple channels under his name. He is also known for creating and hosting the reality web series, Escape the Night.
In the world of reality television, Graceffa became known for appearing on multiple seasons of The Amazing Race. Teamed up with Meghan Camarena as “YouTube Hosts,” he appeared on The Amazing Race 22 and The Amazing Race: All-Stars.
Over a decade since his time on the show, Graceffa recently opened up about an uncomfortable experience he had with a producer on The Amazing Race. As he shared, they wanted him to come out as LGBTQ on camera before he was ready to.
Speaking with Out Magazine, Graceffa shared, “The Amazing Race was a lot of fun, but it was truly traumatizing. It’s crazy. They wanted me to come out on the show!”
During The Conversation, Graceffa Also Touched On His Latest Project & What His YouTube Audience Meant To Him
As the famous vlogger continued, “There was a gay producer who was like, ‘You should come out on the show.’” However, he had a special response for them.
Graceffa shared, “I was like, ‘I’ll come out if you write me that $1 million check at the finish line!’ That didn’t happen. I would not have been ready back then.”
As noted by Deadline, Graceffa came out in a 2015 video called, “YES I’M GAY.” This followed him kissing another man in a music video, “Don’t Wait.”
During the conversation, Graceffa also touched on how much his YouTube audience means to him. Noting that he often felt like an outcast in school, he shared, “I feel like such a loser sometimes. Honestly, having the YouTube audience gave me something to build me up and make me feel special.”
The vlogger also shared that he was working on a new young adult fantasy novel, The Twelve. He shared, “It’s about witches having powers [from] their specific zodiac signs. My story follows twin sisters who are recruited to join a coven where they’re trying to collect all 12 girls of the zodiac to fight off dark witches. American Horror Story: Coven was a big inspiration! It’s definitely my favorite book I’ve written so far.” The conversation was also shared on “Pride Today” on YouTube alongside Ricky Cornish.
