Mor Ilderton auditioned for American Idol after previously dropping out of Season 26 of The Voice. The singer moved the audience and judges to tears with the story of his mother’s death. He performed the original song “How to Love You” without the backing band during Hollywood Week.
Negative feedback is rare for Carrie Underwood. But she didn’t love the decision to perform an original song. And she knew the crowd wouldn’t love her feedback. “I feel you guys are gonna boo me. It’s coming — just bring it on. I love it. Your boos are feeding me,” she said before launching into her feedback of Mor’s performance.
“In a room like this, for you to bring an original song with that incredible band sitting behind you twiddling their thumbs… I feel like it was just a missed opportunity,” she told Mor. The American Idol winner did admit that the risk “paid off.”

Season 24 of American Idol was filmed earlier this year. Carrie Underwood watched Hollywood Week on television with everyone else. She live-tweeted her reactions to what she was seeing on screen. She had a shocking reaction to the crowd booing her.
The “Before He Cheats” singer tweeted, “Boo me. I don’t care,” while Monday’s show was airing on ABC. She followed it up with a deeper explanation for why she disagreed with Mor singing an original song.
“Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition. Don’t. Waste. The. Band. Mor’s voice and previous audition kept him in. I wanna hear his original music after he’s a big star,” she tweeted minutes after her nonchalant reaction to the boos.
Luke Bryan defended his fellow judge from the boos. He pointed out that Carrie Underwood won American Idol and knows what it takes to stay in the competition.
