Following reports that The White Lotus breakout Leo Woodall is being eyed for the role of a young Aragorn, a new rumour suggests that Anya Taylor-Joy has also been cast.
According to Dark Horizons, the Furiosa and The Queen’s Gambit star is currently in talks for a mystery role in the upcoming Andy Serkis-directed feature, The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
While specific details regarding Taylor-Joy’s potential character remain under wraps, rumours suggest the script features two prominent new female roles: one described as “older” and the other as “younger”.
The film serves as a bridge between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies. The plot follows a directive from Gandalf, who sends Aragorn on a perilous quest to track down Gollum before the dark forces of Mordor can extract the location of the One Ring.
With filming scheduled to begin this May in New Zealand, the production is moving at breakneck speed to finalise its ensemble. Fans can already look forward to the return of several franchise icons, including Andy Serkis (both directing and returning as the titular Gollum), Ian McKellen as Gandalf, and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.
The Hunt for Gollum would add to an already stacked calendar for Anya Taylor-Joy. The actress is set to begin a press tour for her voice role as Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, hitting cinemas on April 1st. Plus, she has already completed filming for her role in Denis Villeneuve’s highly anticipated Dune: Part Three, which is slated for a December release later this year.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on December 17, 2027.
