Apple TV+ has announced that it is postponing the release of its upcoming thriller series, The Savant, just days before it was due to air.
The series, which stars Oscar-winning Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), was due to start on the platform this Friday, September 26th, but has now been put on ice with no new release date set as of yet.
“After careful consideration, we have made the decision to postpone The Savant,” an Apple TV+ spokesperson said in a statement to Deadline. “We appreciate your understanding and look forward to releasing the series at a future date.”
No other information was given as to why the studio made the last-minute change, and press for the show had already been completed, but it seems the subject matter is behind the decision, with the series telling of a woman who helps stop extremist attacks and, thus, some of the images and storylines in the show are too close to home after the assassination of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk earlier this month.
According to Deadline, “The series includes a sniper in action and the bombing of a government building among other acts of violence,” and that “There has been more unrest in the U.S. lately, including the shooting into the offices of Sacramento ABC affiliate KXTV (ABC10) on Friday.”
We have seen the show and have a review ready, but we will be holding it until the show gets a new release date.
