Apple has announced two new Studio Displays for its Mac line, including one all-new model.
According to a press release, Apple has released a new version of its Studio Display and a new high-end model, known as the Studio Display XDR.
The new Studio Display features a 12MP Center Stage front camera, with improved image quality and support for what Apple calls Desk View; a studio-quality three-microphone array, and a six-speaker setup with Spatial Audio. The new Studio Display also includes Thunderbolt 5 for connectivity, allowing it to connect to multiple monitors (or daisy-chain, as Apple calls it).
Apple’s brand-new display, the Studio Display XDR, features a 27-inch 5K Retina XDR display with an “advanced” mini-LED backlight with over 2,000 local dimming zones, along with up to 1,000 nits of SDR brightness and 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness.
The display also sports a wider colour gamut and a 120Hz refresh rate. This refresh rate is paired with Apple’s Adaptive Sync, which dynamically adjusts frame rates for content such as video playback and “graphically intense games.” Interestingly, the Studio Display XDR also features the same advanced camera and sound setup as the new Studio Display, along with Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.
Both displays will feature a tilt-and-height-adjustable stand.

Interestingly, the Studio Display XDR introduces new medical-use presets known as DICOM medical imaging. According to Apple, the Studio Display XDR will feature new DICOM medical imaging alongside the Medical Imaging Calibrator, allowing radiologists to view diagnostic images from scans directly on the Studio Display XDR. Apple notes that the Medical Imaging Calibrator is pending FDA approval and is expected to be available in the U.S. soon, though its status in Canada is unknown.
The new Studio Display will start at C$2,099, while the all-new Studio Display XDR will be just over double the price of the Studio Display, retailing for C$4,499. Pre-orders for the new Studio Displays open on March 4, with full availability starting on the 11th.
