Match Preview for Arsenal v Brentford
Arsenal’s run of London derbies continues as the Premier League leaders welcome Brentford to the Emirates on Wednesday night.
The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw at 10-man Chelsea last time out, while Brentford strengthened their campaign with a 3-1 win over Burnley.
Ordinarily, taking a point at Stamford Bridge would be seen as a solid return. But after Chelsea had a man sent off, Arsenal will feel they let two points slip, especially after Trevoh Chalobah’s header forced them to chase the game. #
Mikel Merino eventually nodded in the equaliser, yet Arsenal’s performance carried the signs of a squad feeling the effects of a demanding run of fixtures.
Even so, Arsenal remain five points clear at the top of the table and continue to be relentless at home, winning nine of their ten matches in all competitions at the Emirates this season.
Their unbeaten streak across all competitions now stands at 17 games, and their defensive record on home turf is unmatched in the league.
Brentford, meanwhile, have been a different animal depending on the venue. Their away form has been patchy, with five defeats in their six league outings on the road.
Historically, however, Brentford have struggled on Arsenal soil. Their last league win away to the Gunners dates back to 1938, and Arsenal have not lost to the Bees in the Premier League since their memorable meeting in August 2021.
Team news for Arsenal v Brentford
Arsenal supporters were left concerned after William Saliba was absent from the matchday squad at Chelsea. The centre-back picked up a knock late in the week and faces further assessment ahead of Wednesday’s game.
Gabriel Magalhaes remains sidelined with a hamstring issue, leaving the league leaders without their first-choice pairing in defence.
Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz are expected to miss out again due to muscle and knee problems respectively. There is better news elsewhere: Martin Odegaard, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres are all in contention to start as Mikel Arteta reshuffles his side during a heavy fixture period.
Gabriel Jesus, recently back from an ACL injury, could also be involved after making the bench at Stamford Bridge.
Riccardo Calafiori is one booking away from suspension, which may tempt Arteta to consider rotation at left-back.
For Brentford, Reiss Nelson is unavailable as he cannot play against his parent club. He joins Fabio Carvalho, Josh Dasilva and Antoni Milambo on the injury list, with all three long-term absentees expected to be out until next year.

Without Saliba and Gabriel, Arsenal’s back line may give Igor Thiago encouragement. But Brentford’s problems away from home remain a major concern, and Arsenal tend to find answers at the Emirates even when below their best.https://x.com/Arsenal/status/1995568733214122425https://x.com/Arsenal/status/1995568733214122425
