There have been plenty of rumours that Warner Bros was looking into a Weapons spin-off focusing on Aunt Gladys (Amy Madigan), and now Director Zach Cregger has come out confirming them to be true.
In an interview with Fangoria, Cregger confirmed, “It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it. There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bullshit”. Before going on to add that “I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out”. The rumoured plot will allegedly expand on a storyline that focused on Aunt Gladys’ history, which was cut by Cregger during the original film’s development.
Unfortunately for Weapons fans, Cregger’s next film is the Resident Evil reboot, which will adapt Capcom’s flagship horror video game franchise. As part of the same interview, Cregger teased that his film will feature original characters, not just those featured in the source material – “I am the biggest worshiper of the games, so I’m telling a story that is a love letter to the games and follows the rules of the games.”
The film takes place after all but one child from the same class vanishes on the same night at the same time. The surrounding community is left to question who or what is behind their disappearance. The cast is made up of Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Alden Ehrenreich (Ironheart), Amy Madigan (Streets of Fire), and Austin Abrams (Euphoria).
Weapons is in cinemas now.
