The Montreal Alouettes have a decision to make about American receiver Austin Mack being with the team in 2026 — and it comes with a deadline.

The 28-year-old has a $45,000 offseason roster bonus due on February 1, per league sources, as part of a contract worth $211,000 in hard money for 2026. He has an additional $9,000 available in playtime incentives along with $3,000 in all-star bonuses.

“We don’t have to be at the cap until December 31 of this year,” general manager Danny Maciocia said. “We can make it fit, if we choose to make it fit.”

Midway through last season, Maciocia signed CFL all-star receiver Tyler Snead to a contract extension through 2027, giving him a raise from the $150,000 he earned in 2025. The 58-year-old also gave Canadian pass catcher Tyson Philpot a $127,000 raise as he’s set to make $275,000 in hard money in 2026.

Mack ranked third on the team last season with 674 receiving yards, finishing behind Philpot (804) and Snead (1,129). The Ohio State Buckeyes product was the ninth highest-paid at his position, though a hamstring injury limited him to 12 regular-season games and hindered him in the playoffs.

The Fort Wayne, Ind. native recorded three receptions for 98 yards in the East Semi-Final and two grabs for 21 yards in the East Final, but did not register a catch in the 112th Grey Cup against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

“There’s other bonuses that are coming up, (Mack’s) not the only one,” Maciocia said. “We’ve got multiple players that are getting bonuses, I think the 15th of January, heading into the first of February and the 15th of February. Whether it’s Austin or any other player, we can make it fit if we choose to make it fit.”

Mack signed a four-year contract extension with Montreal in 2024, which runs through the 2028 season. He committed to the team by buying a house in Montreal in 2024 and living there year-round with his family.

Time will tell if the six-foot-one, 208-pound target remains with the Alouettes.
