The Nationals announced that right-hander Jhancarlos Lara cleared outright waivers and has been assigned to Double-A Harrisburg. This is his first career outright assignment and he has less than three years of service time, so he does not have the right to elect free agency. Lara, 23, is a power arm with control issues. The righty averages around 98 miles per hour with both his four-seamer and sinker. As is often the case for pitchers with that kind of power, getting the ball over the plate can be a challenge. From 2022 to 2025, Lara struck out 29.7% of the…
NEW YORK — A self-exiled billionaire Chinese business tycoon once believed to be among China’s wealthiest men was sentenced Monday to 30 years in a U.S. prison for a massive financial fraud. Guo Wengui, who fled China a decade ago and reinvented himself as a U.S.-based Communist Party critic, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres in Manhattan. Given a chance to speak before hearing his sentence, Guo protested his treatment in jail, saying he fainted and fell down at 5 a.m. Monday. He said doctors at a hospital said he should stay there for treatment, but he was…
YouTube has announced several key changes to its juggernaut Shorts platform, including the removal of dislikes, a clear screen mode, and double-speed playback. Now, as Engadget noted, dislikes going away on Shorts is nothing new, as the platform started hiding dislike counts years ago. But now the button is gone entirely. Instead, YouTube will rely on “more precise” controls, such as the ‘Not Interested’ and ‘Don’t recommend this channel’ buttons, to change what shows up in your feed. The team also said in the blog post that it has replaced the like button with a heart to provide “a more meaningful…
The Athletics announced a big batch of roster moves today. Shortstop Jacob Wilson and outfielder Tyler Soderstrom have both been placed on the 10-day injured list. Wilson’s transaction is retroactive to June 26th and due to right thumb inflammation. Soderstrom’s is retroactive to June 28th and due to a left hip impingement. Additionally, left-hander José Suarez hits the paternity list. To replace those three, the A’s have recalled righty Kade Morris and infielder Darell Hernaiz and selected the contract of infielder Joshua Kuroda-Grauer. To open a 40-man spot for Kuroda-Grauer, righty Michael Kelly has been designated for assignment. At this…

The changes the province is considering for those caught driving impaired include immediate licence suspension and vehicle impoundment after roadside assessments by police. The penalties, if they are approved during the provincial legislature’s fall sitting, would be applied through the Traffic Safety Act.“Impaired driving is not only a traffic safety issue, it is a public safety issue, and it is a justice issue,” Saskatchewan’s Minister of Justice and Attorney General Tim McLeod told reporters in Saskatoon Monday.“Every year impaired driving cases cause tremendous but preventable harm to…

Black leggings may be a year-round staple, but Lindsay Lohan just made a convincing case for swapping them out for summer 2026. Instead of her usual dark bottoms, the actress wore crisp white capri leggings, instantly transforming her casual outfit into something lighter, fresher and far more seasonally chic. While filming Count My Lies in New York City on June 23, Lohan opted to pair cropped white leggings with a loose deep-V top, white sneakers and a brown Hermès Birkin…
Paraguay winger Enciso heads home to stun Germany and put them on the brink of World Cup elimination
Germany were 45 minutes from World Cup elimination this evening after being frustrated by a classic smash-and-grab performance from Paraguay in Foxborough. The South Americans had barely ventured into the Germany half during a largely dour first period but claimed a stunning half-time lead three minutes before the break when Julio Enciso nodded past Manuel Neuer. Germany had 79% possession in a one-sided encounter but Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill was not called upon to make a save of note as Paraguay defended superbly on the edge of their own area. Paraguay start and end first half strongly The half started…
Heritage Minister Marc Miller said Monday the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg has erred in how it curated an exhibit about displaced Palestinians. The federal cabinet minister said in an interview with The Canadian Press on Monday that the museum should change how it portrays the current conflict between Israel and Palestinians and update the museum’s oversight.”It isn’t up to me to speak to, or insert myself in, the curation of any particular exhibit. But manifestly, you cannot deny the fact that this is an exhibit that is born in controversy — and perhaps some of it could have…

President Trump said Monday that he hasn’t decided whether to sign a bipartisan bill aimed at lowering the cost of housing, saying it was “so unimportant” compared to his stalled election-integrity legislation. “It’s so unimportant compared to the SAVE America Act. When I look at the bill, it’s a bill,” Mr. Trump said of the housing legislation during an Oval Office event. “When I look at the SAVE America Act, it’s about saving America,” he said. “It’s a yawn,” he said of the housing measure. “To me, compared to the SAVE America Act, just about everything is a big yawn.”…
