Captain Sandy Yawn has become the subject of a number of headlines since she’s been part of the Below Deck franchise. However, there have been times when she’s spoken out about stories of her being less than true. Recently, she turned to social media to discuss a story centered around a loved one.
Below Deck’s Captain Sandy Yawn Shared A Video About A Fan Page On Social Media
Below Deck is a Bravo series that originally premiered in 2013. Over the years, the show has seen a number of spin-offs, including Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, and Below Deck Down Under.
Viewers were first introduced to Captain Sandy Yawn through the series’ first spin-off, Below Deck Mediterranean. She first appeared on the show during its second season.
In recent years, Yawn and her spouse, Leah Shafer, have often found themselves the subjects of various online rumors. Together, the Florida-based couple has often spoken out about such stories, dubbing them “fake news.”
In a recent video, Yawn sent out a warning to fans, noting that the “@belowdeckfannews” fan page was reporting that Leah has cancer, specified as “breast cancer” in a caption. However, Yawn assured fans that “she doesn’t” in the video.
Leah herself interjected, proclaiming, “I don’t have breast cancer,” from the background. She also denied getting a “mastectomy,” as the camera tilted towards her.
Yawn continued, telling people to “Think about the people that are going through this. It’s not cool.” She then asked the fan page to “stop” in honor of people who are “really suffering.”
In a caption, the video shared, “The photo that they are posting was taken back in 2019 when she actually had a lumpectomy which came back fine. Please help shut this page down!”
Yawn Claimed That A Photo Of Leah Was Taken Out Of Context
The caption continued, “She is high risk and gets screened every 6 months. Thank God she is fine.” The caption continued, telling fans to follow Captain Yawn on social media to get accurate updates directly from the source.
Yawn didn’t directly link to the fan page. However, the story could still be seen on social media hours following Yawn’s video. One version of events claimed that Leah would be undergoing a “double mastectomy,” claiming the spouses would have to spend seven weeks apart, and included alleged quotes from Captain Sandy.

With the video being released on social media, many fans shared their support in the comments. Many shared their gratitude to hear that Leah was alright, especially from those dealing with cancer themselves. Some comments included:
-
- “That’s great to hear, because I just had a Breast cancer scare last year in December 5th and no it’s not a joking matter. Thank you.”
- “I’m so happy to hear she does not have breast cancer! I just finished a year and a half long battle in December with breast cancer myself, it’s sad that people are sick enough to make stuff up like this! I am surely happy that this is fake though! You guys are amazing.”
- “Get em’ Captain Sandy!“
