Whether you are looking for something quick and tasty on your way to work or when you are off to discover the city, or perhaps when you want to surprise someone with breakfast in bed, or want to get your hands on a really tasty loaf of sourdough bread, here is a list of a few of the best bakeries in Barcelona:

    BEST BAKERIES IN BARCELONA

Origo Bakery, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

    Origo

Origo is easily one of my absolute favorite bakeries in the city. They specialize in ancient grains and sourdough bread, where each loaf is made by hand. Their gluten-free bread is the best I’ve had in Barcelona. They also have a shop with mostly locally sourced products. Read my review of Origo Bakery here.

Origo Bakery, Carrer de Milà i Fontanals 9, Barcelona (Gracia).

Funky Bakers, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

    Funky Bakers

Another one of my favorites: Funky is a mix of Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Nordic, and Australian, it is unlike any bakery in Barcelona. They have three locations, a shop in the Born for takeaway, and an Eatery and a Deli in Eixample. You can also order online. They are famous for their Basque cheesecake, the pistachio croissant, and the seasonal danishes. Read my review on Funky Bakers here.

Eatery: C/Bailèn 61 (Eixample Dreta), Bakery: Passeig del Born 10, Barcelona (Born), Deli: C/ de la Diputació, 347 (Eixample Dreta).

    Forno Bomba

This adorable spot in Les Corts is fairly new, but wonderfully cool and inviting. Two Italian friends bake wonderful sourdough loaves, delicious cinnamon and cardamom rolls, fresh focaccia, and more. They have space for you to sit down and enjoy your baked goods both inside and outside on their patio, together with a cup of specialty coffee or why not a glass of natural wine! Read my review of Forno Bomba here.

Forno Bomba, Carrer del Vallespir, 24 (Les Corts).

    Oz Bakery

After baking delicious bread for their restaurants Flying Monkey, La Balabusta, and Auto Rosellón, the owners decided to open their own bakery and it’s become quite the success. They do sourdough, challah, soft brioche, brownie cookies, plum cakes, and more. You can also order online to pick up!

Oz Bakery, Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia 11 (Gràcia) and Carrer d’Amigó 37 (Sarrià-Sant Gervasi).

Primate Bakehouse, Barcelona. Photo © Barcelona Food Experience.

    Primate Bakehouse

Primate Bakehouse is a charming, fairly new spot in Sant Antoni baking fresh loaves of sourdough bread (and more), and wonderful pastries: their cinnamon rolls are very different and delicious! You can also get your specialty coffee fix here: they serve local Nomad coffee.

Primate Bakehouse, Carrer de Manso 40 (Sant Antoni).

    Baluard

A local favorite where you will always find a queue no matter the time of the day. The bread and the almond croissants are worth the wait. They have quite a history: they first opened in 1892!
