Everton earned a point in the 97th minute.

Beto scored a last-gasp equaliser as Everton fought back to earn a 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Chances were few and far between in the first half of a contest both aiming to move towards to the upper echelons of a tightly packed table.

Everton were the better side for much of the second, with Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen forced to make a fine save to deny Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

But it was Brighton who took the lead through Pascal Gross’ 73rd-minute strike.

Gross, who re-joined Brighton from Borussia Dortmund this month, swept home to cap a fine Brighton move.

Yasin Ayari played a low ball in from the right and, after a dummy from Charalampos Kostoulas, Gross beat Jordan Pickford to score his first goal since returning for a second spell with the Seagulls.

But there was a twist in the tale in the 97th minute, Beto pouncing on the rebound after Verbruggen could only palm Jake O’Brien’s shot into his path.

Everton move, at least temporarily, into the top eight of the Premier League table.

    Wolves 0-2 Bournemouth

While there was late disappointment for one south coast club, Bournemouth made sure they did not slip up at rock bottom Wolves.

Having stunned Liverpool last Saturday, there was no letdown from the Cherries, who are now 13 points clear of the bottom three.

Eli Junior Kroupi’s eighth goal of an outstanding season gave Bournemouth a 33rd-minute lead, the 19-year-old finding the net with a superb half-volley.

Wolves fought back well, with Tolu Arokodare forcing a stunning Djordje Petrovic save before Joao Gomes hit the woodwork.

And the hosts were made to pay for not taking those chances, as Alex Scott put the game beyond doubt.

Bournemouth’s new signing Rayan produced excellent work to get to the byline and pull the ball back, giving Scott a simple finish.
