Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel have a bit in common, both being Los Angeles-based talk show hosts. However, Maher recently discussed a rift between the two of them. He also spoke with a guest who shared whether they thought the two could patch things up.
Bill Maher Spoke With Guest Who Had History With Jimmy Kimmel
Maher is a political satirist previously known for hosting Politically Incorrect on ABC and Comedy Central. In 2003, he started hosting Real Time with Bill Maher for HBO.
Meanwhile, Kimmel has been hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! since 2003. In fact, ABC gave Kimmel his show as a replacement for Politically Incorrect.
Recently, Maher name-dropped Kimmel during an episode of his podcast, Club Random. Maher was speaking with his guest, Adam Carolla.
Notably, Kimmel has a bit of a history with Carolla, as the two previously hosted The Man Show together for Comedy Central from 1999 to 2004. The two have since had a decades-long friendship together.
During the discussion, Maher told Carolla, “Jimmy Kimmel, you know, he’s very mad at me and I know you’re close to him.” However, he did not delve into what caused a rift between him and Kimmel. Maher continued, expressing, “I hope you tell [Kimmel] that I’m sorry that it got bent out of shape.”
He added, “I don’t think I did anything wrong. We can have disagreements. I mean, you and I don’t agree on everything, look at this clash now, and yet we’re cool.”
Guest Adam Carolla Shared That He Thought Maher & Kimmel Could Reconcile
Maher felt that Kimmel was “a great guy.” However, he felt that “we may never talk again” because of some past incident, described as “what the latest thing was.”
Carolla was sympathetic, feeling that, whatever happened, he and Maher should be able to bury the hatchet. He continued, “You guys should be thick as thieves and on the same page.”

While Maher did not delve heavily into what happened with him and Kimmel, this took place a few months after Maher called out Kimmel’s wife, Molly McNearney, for cutting ties with family over politics. As noted by Entertainment Weekly, this also came out amid President Donald Trump’s feud with various late-night hosts.
On his show, Maher reacted to comments McNearney made, saying, “She says she’s lost relationships with relatives because she wrote them an email before the election with ten reasons why they shouldn’t vote for Trump, and some still didn’t obey, so you know. Ultimatums. Ten reasons? I can think of 100.” As he described, these “ultimatums” made people rethink the sender and not their politics.
In another episode of the Club Random podcast, Maher noted that Kimmel was upset over these comments. However, at the time, Maher similarly expressed hope that the two could still remain friends.
