It’s been four years since we last had a solo Tom Holland Spider-Man movie. Said movie was Spider-Man: No Way Home, and to call it a ‘solo’ film may be a bit disingenuous – after all, it featured much-vaunted appearances from ex-webslingers Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.
In 2026, Holland swings back onto our screens in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It’s a pivotal movie in Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will precede the release of the sure-to-be-gargantuan Avengers: Doomsday at the end of the year. (We’re still awaiting the trailer for that one.)
The new Spider-Man movie has recently concluded filming under the auspices of director Destin Daniel Cretton, who helmed the 2021 Marvel movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Filming took place in Glasgow and Pinewood Studios.
Cretton praised Holland for his “kind, generous leadership on and off screen, for your relentless work ethic, your fearless performances, and for your friendship.”
No Way Home concluded with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker having reset the multiversal clock, at the expense of everything that he knew and loved. Girlfriend M.J. (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) had their memories wiped and Spidey swung selflessly off into the night.
Quite how Brand New Day will continue these plot threads remains to be seen. Marvel veterans Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have written the script, while Zendaya and Batalon are both set to return. Also in the cast: Stranger Things‘ Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Severance‘s Tramell Tillman.
Cretton wrote on Instagram: “I’m so deeply grateful for the people who walked with me through the biggest, most rewarding film I’ve ever been a part of. To our amazing cast, for breathing so much life into these beloved characters and moving us every day.
“To our unbelievable crew, who worked tirelessly with unmatched creativity and craftsmanship, who made me laugh so hard my stomach never stopped hurting. I love you all so much and can’t wait for the world to see your stunning work on the big screen.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31st, 2026. That same month, Holland will be starring in Christopher Nolan‘s mythological epic The Odyssey, released on July 17th, 2026.
