Born and raised in Paris, Bardot started her career in the early 1950s. She gained recognition in 1957 after appearing in And God Created Woman the previous year.
Bardot went on to appear in 47 films, as well as appearing in several musicals and recording multiple songs. She famously withdrew from the entertainment industry in 1973, dedicating her efforts towards animal rights, but continued to remain a major pop culture icon.
According to The Daily Mail, it has been reported that Bardot passed away at the age of 91. Citing local media, he was reportedly ill in a Toulon hospital.
In addition to her work on the screen, Bardot was also an established animal rights activist. Her animal rights charity, Brigitte Bardot Foundation, announced the news of her passing with a statement on Sunday morning.

As it read, “The Brigitte Bardot Foundation announces with immense sadness the death of its founder and president, Madame Brigitte Bardot, a world-renowned actress and singer, who chose to abandon her prestigious career to dedicate her life and energy to animal welfare and her foundation.” The statement did not specify the time and place where Bardot had died.
Since the news has come out, French President Emmanuel Macron has also paid tribute to the star on social media. Taking to X, he called her “a legend who embodied a life of freedom.”

Jordan Bardella, president of the National Rally party, also hailed Bardot as “a woman of heart, conviction, and character.” The statement continued, “Brigitte Bardot was a woman of heart, conviction, and character. A fervent patriot, a lover of animals whom she protected throughout her life, she embodied an entire era of French history, but also and above all, a certain idea of courage and freedom.”
