What To Know About Their Current Child Support Situation
For context, Brittany Renner and PJ Washington share a four-year-old boy named Paul Jermaine Washington III. They briefly dated and split shortly after welcoming the child in 2021. Last November, a court in North Carolina determined that PJ would be responsible for paying $5,500 a month and a lump sum of $130,000. The six-figure payment was meant to cover child-related expenses leading up to the consent order and the mother’s attorney fees.
While the co-parents have been under this agreement for months, the public learned about it this week. TMZ published a report citing court documents that Brittany Renner filed earlier this month in Los Angeles. She filed the paperwork to ensure she could collect the child support payments in California after relocating from North Carolina–where the case was initially based. When she filed, Brittany Renner clarified that, up to that point, PJ Washington had satisfied all his payments and didn’t owe her any money.
Brittany Renner Wants PJ Washington To Pay $35K
While the internet has been chatting about PJ’s $5,500 payments, Brittany Renner circled back to court this week. TMZ Sports reportedly secured court documents that say Brittany believes she’s not receiving enough money. Instead, she’s allegedly looking for “at least $35,000” monthly from Washington. Apparently, the amount will help sustain a lifestyle for the pro-athlete’s firstborn that matches the one his dad lives.
When they agreed to $5,500 in November, Brittany Renner claims she still lived with PJ in North Carolina. However, her financial situation has changed significantly since she and her son relocated to Los Angeles last year. Therefore, she claims she cannot afford the “high cost of living” with what PJ is now paying and is “struggling to make ends meet.” She also alleges that the father only visits their son “less than half” of the time he’s allowed.
“I cannot provide [our son] a life anywhere similar to that of his father,” Renner wrote in her filing, per TMZ.
Renner is apparently confident that PJ can afford the child support bump. She cited the recent contract extension he signed with the Dallas Mavericks in her documents. It’s reportedly worth $90 million over the next four years. He confirmed the early September reports about the pay increase by writing “God is good,” in response to an X post.
Brittany Renner Wants Son’s Life To Match PJ’s
Aside from naming PJ’s $90M contract, Brittany Renner also called out his personal lifestyle. She claimed that he and his family, including his wife Alisah ‘Chanel’ Washington, stepson, and child with her, live lavishly compared to his firstborn son with Renner. PJ and Alisah got engaged in 2022 while she was pregnant with their child, and married in October 2023.
TMZ said the docs claim PJ Washington and his wife “have multiple luxury vehicles, constantly post their designer shopping clothes and boast about luxury vacations.” Brittany added:
“In contrast, I live in a humble Airbnb rental in West Hills and shop for [our son’s] clothes at Target,” the mother stated in the docs.
As for her lawyer fees, Renner is seeking an additional $50,000. The co-parents reportedly have a hearing in November to discuss the increase request.
Keep in mind that Renner is pointing all this out after a video of a heated confrontation with PJ and Alisah went viral. It’s still unclear when the video was filmed, but it shows Renner confronting PJ about visiting his son, so he cries less during pickups. At one point in the clip, Renner’s mother accuses PJ of giving his wife thousands of dollars while his firstborn son allegedly only had $11,000 in his bank account. Soon after that explosive video, Alisah Chanel hopped online to flex the custom Rolls-Royce she gifted PJ for his 27th birthday.

After news broke of Renner’s request on Wednesday, Alisah’s IG Story activity went up! First, she posted a bunch of laughing emojis with no context. Then, sis posted a photo inside a luxury store with the caption, “A good day to go shopping.” After that, she continued sharing images from her day, including a Starbucks drink, a workout room and a Louis Vuitton purse purchase.
