Bungie has confirmed that Marathon will release sometime in March 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
The first-person extraction shooter was first announced in May 2023 and serves as a brand-new entry in Bungie’s original sci-fi Marathon games from the ’90s. It’s also PlayStation-owned Bungie’s first non-Destiny game since 2010’s Halo: Reach.
Alongside the release month, PlayStation also confirmed that it’s targeting a US $39.99 price tag (about C$55), well below the US$70/C$90 cost of most current-gen games. On top of that, Bungie is promising that the game won’t feature any pay-to-win options, suggesting that microtransactions will be centred around cosmetics.
The Marathon news came as part of a new 22-minute video unpacking the vision behind the game. It also outlines tweaks that have been made since the last alpha, such as the addition of proximity chat, a solo queue, and improved visual fidelity.
Marathon was originally supposed to launch this past September but was delayed indefinitely a few months prior. At the time, Bungie said it needed more time to address player feedback, which came after a mixed response to playtests and a widespread controversy surrounding stolen artwork that has since been resolved.
With this news, we also now have a better idea of PlayStation’s wider first-party release calendar for 2026. Following Marathon in March, the publisher has Saros from Returnal maker Housemarque coming on April 30 and Insomniac’s Spider-Man follow-up, Marvel’s Wolverine, dropping sometime in late 2026.
