Bunnie Xo Opens Up About Terrifying Weight Loss Drug Side Effect
Jelly Roll weighed over 500 pounds at his heaviest. After two years of hard work, he’s lost nearly 300 pounds. His wife, Bunnie Xo, wanted to support his weight-loss journey by going on one of her own. But instead of the natural way, she started using weight-loss drugs to maintain her goal weight.
While the weight-loss drugs can reportedly cause issues with nausea or diarrhea, Bunnie Xo opened up about a shocking and terrifying side effect she had. She revealed on her podcast that she was taking Retatrutide, a weight-loss drug similar to Mounjaro. But the drug caused serious side effects.
“I literally got sent into the worst battle depression that I’ve had since 2020. I’m talking, like, it scared me so bad. I didn’t think I was gonna make it through the two weeks,” she said on the Dumb Blonde podcast.
The medication left her feeling suicidal. “I had no emotion. You could see. Like, my eyes were black. I couldn’t even listen to music, music that brings me joy. I just drove in silence because I just couldn’t handle anything,” she recalled.
Bunnie Xo clarified that her experience with the weight-loss drug was her own and others may not have the same experience. Her disclosure of feeling depressed after taking the drug comes at an interesting time.
According to CNN, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration requested that drugmakers change the labels of weight-loss drugs. The government agency asked to remove label warnings about possible suicidal thoughts from the drugs.
How She’s Doing Now
The side effects of the weight-loss drug scared Bunnie Xo so badly, she quit taking Retatrutide. “I’m 20 days out now from taking it, and I finally am getting my joy back. But that was a battle,” she shared.

While many of the podcast listeners only had positive experiences with the weight-loss drug, they thanked Bunnie Xo for addressing it publicly. She has a short tour planned to support the book. The tour kicks off in New York City on February 26 before heading to Nashville on February 22. The book tour wraps up in Las Vegas on February 26 after a stop in Los Angeles the day before. The New York City and Nashville dates have already sold out, according to her social media.
Now that she’s off the weight-loss drug that was making her depressed, she’s back to her former self.
