The Calgary Stampeders have signed defensive end Clarence Hicks to a three-year contract extension through the 2028 CFL season.
He was scheduled to became a CFL free agent in February and worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, December 29.
The 27-year-old pass rusher suited up for 18 regular-season games with the Stamps in 2025. He recorded 28 defensive tackles, 12 sacks, which ranked third-most in the CFL, and forced two fumbles on his way to being named a West Division all-star. For his efforts, Hicks earned the Stampeders nomination for Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
The six-foot-two, 229-pound pass rusher initially signed with Calgary entering the 2024 season. He registered 14 defensive tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and one special teams stop as a CFL rookie.
Hicks attended training camp with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2022. The year after, he played 10 games for the Seattle Sea Dragons in the XFL and notched 21 tackles with two sacks. The speedy defender ran a 4.50 time in the 40-yard dash at his pro day to draw attention from professional scouts.
In the NCAA, Hicks played 38 games over three seasons at the University of Texas at San Antonio. In 2021, he set a single-season school record with 10.5 sacks to go along with 37 tackles and one interception on the way to being named a first-team Conference USA all-star. During his time with the Roadrunners, the Pensacola, Fla. native accumulated 108 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and two interceptions.
Hicks transferred to UTSA after two years at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas. In 12 games with the Blue Dragons, he posted 42 tackles, 14 sacks and two forced fumbles. He was named a second-team Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference all-star in 2018.
Calgary recently restructured Folarin Orimolade’s contract, which gives the Stampeders a dynamic and productive defensive end tandem for the 2026 CFL season.
