The Calgary Stampeders have unveiled 10 number changes for the 2026 season following the conclusion of CFL free agency.
Clarence Hicks, who had a breakout season at defensive end, has switched from No. 12 to No. 1, which was worn by Adam Bighill in 2025. Hicks was named All-West Division for the first time last year after recording 28 defensive tackles, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
Backup quarterback P.J. Walker has moved from No. 2 to No. 11, the same number he wore for part of his six seasons in the NFL. No. 11 was formerly worn by receiver Malik Henry, who wasn’t retained in free agency after missing the past two seasons due to injury.
Walker’s old No. 2 has been taken by veteran linebacker Kyle Wilson, who previously wore No. 31. The 30-year-old native of Wichita, Kan. has made 212 defensive tackles, 16 special teams tackles, four forced fumbles, two sacks, and one interception over 63 regular-season CFL games with Hamilton and Calgary.
Third-string quarterback Josh Love has switched to No. 12, which was previously worn by Hicks, after wearing No. 16 last season. The native of Mission Viejo, Calif. wore No. 12 during his standout collegiate career at San Jose State and again in the UFL.
Marquel Lee, who is projected to remain the team’s starting middle linebacker, has moved from No. 50 to No. 8. Canadian defensive back Anton Haie was assigned No. 8 last season but has moved to No. 31, which formerly belonged to Wilson. Haie is expected to make his Stampeders debut this year after missing all of 2025 due to injury.
Former first-round CFL draft pick Daniel Joseph has switched from No. 95 to No. 99, which used to belong to defensive lineman B.J. Thompson, who is no longer with the team. Canadian defensive back Dolani Robinson, who made Calgary’s roster as an undrafted free agent in 2025, has changed from No. 49 to No. 35.
Mark Vassett, the team’s punter, has switched from No. 70 to No. 15, which used to be worn by Dominique Rhymes. Vassett previously wore No. 15 at the University of Colorado.
The Stampeders have also assigned No. 23 to linebacker Morice Blackwell Jr., who wore No. 45 in 2025. No. 23 belonged to William Langlais for a decade, though the fullback announced his retirement last month.
Calgary has also assigned numbers to its free agent additions.
Canadian receiver Dejon Brissett, who wore No. 18 with the Toronto Argonauts, will wear No. 17 with the Stampeders. American running back Deonta McMahon will wear No. 20, while American defensive back Devodric Bynum will wear No. 32.
The Calgary Stampeders weren’t very active in CFL free agency, though they signed former Toronto Argonauts receiver Dejon Brissett, who set a career-high with 907 receiving yards in 2025. The Stampeders didn’t lose any free agents to other CFL teams but had three players sign in the NFL: receiver Damien Alford (New Orleans Saints), defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings (Minnesota Vikings), and linebacker Jacob Roberts (Minnesota Vikings).
The Stampeders hold the sixth overall pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, which is scheduled for Tuesday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. EDT. All CFL training camps are scheduled to open on May 10. Calgary will play its first preseason game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Monday, May 18 and its first regular-season game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday, June 5.
In 2025, Calgary finished third in the West Division standings with an 11-7 record but lost the West Semi-Final to the B.C. Lions.
