Team Canada is one win away from reaching the quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic quarterfinals. On Tuesday Canada defeated Puerto Rico to improve their record to two wins and one loss. With the win, Canada has an opportunity to win Pool A. With a win over Cuba on Wednesday at 1pm MT, the Canadians will finish on top of their group at three wins and one loss. However, with a loss to Cuba, and Canada will be eliminated.
Offensively, the Canadian star was once again Miami Marlins left fielder Owen Caissie of Burlington, Ontario. Caissie was the only Canadian with a multi-hit game, as he had two hits. Interestingly, both of his hits were extra base hits as he collected two doubles.
Caissie is now hitting .545 in the tournament. In 11 at bats, Caissie has six hits (three doubles, two singles and one home run). This is a massive improvement from the .111 batting average he had with the Marlins during 2026 spring training and the .192 batting average he had with the Chicago Cubs during the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season.
Meanwhile on the mound on Tuesday, Canada had strong pitching from the trio of Jordan Balazovic of Mississauga, Ontario, Logan Allen and Brock Dykxhoorn of Goderich, Ontario. They combined to give up only two earned runs, five hits and three walks in nine innings, with seven strikeouts.
