Canadian quarterback Taylor Elgersma was selected by the Birmingham Stallions in the 2026 United Football League QB Draft on Monday.
According to the UFL, the Quarterback Draft is the first phase in its player selection process for the upcoming season. Head coaches evaluated all available quarterbacks in collaboration with the UFL centralized scouting department. The Stallions also selected quarterbacks Matt Corral and Jaren Hall.
After being released by the Green Bay Packers following training camp in August, Elgersma has since worked out for the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. If he plays in the UFL, it would give him more experience playing the American game. However, the 23-year-old remains focused on inking an NFL contract and has not signed with Birmingham.
Elgersma completed 16-of-23 passes for 166 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while playing over three NFL preseason games with the Packers, recording a 104.6 QB rating.
The six-foot-five, 227-pound passer signed with Green Bay as an undrafted free agent in May following a rookie mini-camp tryout, becoming the fourth Canadian university QB to sign with an NFL team and the first since 1987. He threw a touchdown pass during the Packers Family Night scrimmage on Saturday, August 2 and flashed despite limited reps in training camp.
