Leading eSIM provider Airalo has published a new report containing some interesting data on Canadian travel habits this year.
Taking into account Canadian Airalo eSIM purchases between December 2024 and October 2025, Airalo notes that the U.S. remained the top destination for Canucks, even with a marked drop brought on by unwarranted American tariffs, attacks on Canadian sovereignty and civil rights concerns. See below for Canadians’ top 10 destinations with year-over-year growth or decline, per Airalo:
- United States (down 26 per cent)
- Japan (up 34 per cent)
- Mexico (up 32 per cent)
- France (up 42 per cent)
- United Kingdom (up 20 per cent)
- Italy (down 3 per cent)
- Portugal (up 21 per cent)
- Spain (up 9 per cent)
- Costa Rica (up 32 per cent)
- Thailand (up 35 per cent)
Meanwhile, Airalo says the top three fastest-growing destinations were Lebanon (up 302 per cent), South Korea (up 213 per cent) and the Czech Republic (up 190 per cent). On the flip side, the three slowest-growing destinations were Bosnia and Herzegovina (down 30 per cent), the U.S. (down 26 per cent) and Turkey (down 10 per cent). Looking ahead, Airalo says emerging destinations to watch in 2026 include Martinique, Azores, Finland, India and Guatemala.
Other random interesting tidbits to consider:
- Victoria Day is the “unofficial” start of the summer and was actually Airalo’s busiest travel period of the year
- The first two weekends of May are also especially popular, so late April is a better time for spring travel
- September and October are good times to travel due to solid deals and comparatively less demand
- February is a peak time for snowbirds in the U.S., Mexico and Japan
Of course, this data only takes into consideration Airalo users, so it’s just one part of a larger picture. Still, it’s neat to get this kind of insight and it could even help you plan your next trip.
Airalo eSIMs can be purchased online or through the dedicated mobile app on Android and iOS.
