After several long and busy days, Summer Game Fest 2026 has come to an end.
Not unlike its E3 predecessor, the several-day stretch featured all kinds of presentations and reveals from companies both big and small, from heavy hitters like the main SGF event and Xbox Games Showcase + Gears of War: E-Day Direct to indie-focused streams like Women-Led Games: Summer Game Fest Edition and Southeast Asian Games Showcase.
Honestly, it was a lot. But throughout all of that, Canadian developers consistently proved to be behind some of the biggest and most creative games, whether it was the return of fan-favourites like Gears of War and Cuphead or the introduction of all kinds of new and original properties. Honourable mentions
Given the nature of co-development and remote work, there are many projects that involve Canadians in varying capacities. Therefore, we still want to give a shoutout to some of them, including:
- Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition — a remaster of Vancouver-based Relic’s 2006 classic RTS
- Crossfire — Canadian Mitch Dyer (Star Wars: Battlefront II, Gotham Knights) is one of the writers of this tactical action adventure game from That’s No Moon (a studio formed by alums from studios like Naughty Dog and Infinity Ward)
- Exodus — A Mass Effect-esque original sci-fi action-RPG from Archetype Entertainment, a Texas team featuring BioWare alums like narrative director Drew Karpyshyn (Mass Effect, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) and former studio head James Ohlen (lead designer on Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins)
- Fable — Eidos Montreal (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy) is assisting lead developer Playground on this reboot of Xbox’s fan-favourite fantasy RPG series
- Orna: The GPS RPG — While not SGF-related, Ottawa’s Northern Forge Studios has an adjacent “Terra’s Legacy: Rainsong” event to raise money for the environmental non-profit Rainforest Alliance
- Thief: The Dark Project Remastered — Eidos Montreal is one of the developers alongside Nightdive Studios that’s working on this remake of the 1998 eponymous classic stealth game
- Thousand Hells: The Underworld Heists — This tactical narrative game from developer A Sharp is published by Montreal’s Kitfox (Boyfriend Dungeon) and features music and sound design from Quebec City-based Neha Patel (Venba)
Given that there’s more or less 5,000 showcases during Summer Game Fest, we may have missed some Canadian games. (Sorry, if so!) But overall, we think this is a pretty comprehensive list that shows the creativity and versatility of Canadian game devs.
What were your favourite Canadian games from SGF? Let us know in the comments.
