Paramount Pictures has just released the official trailer for the highly anticipated spoof-comedy horror sequel Scary Movie 6, the latest addition to the classic Scary Movie franchise (2000-2013), which is directed by Michael Tiddes.
The film series, centred as a collection of parody films of classic or popular horror films released slightly before each installment, began with spoofs of 1996’s Scream, 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer and pop culture references.
The first film featured a cast of Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris, Regina Hall and Jon Abrahams.
Scary Movie 6 will see original faces return to the franchise after the Wayans brothers parted from the projects following the second film, and Faris and Hall not appearing in the last film, being replaced by Ashley Tisdale.
The full cast for the sixth film includes Damon Wayans Jr., Gregg Wayans, Kim Wayans, Benny Zielke, Cameron Scott Roberts, Cheri Oteri, Chris Elliott, Dave Sheridan, Heidi Gardner, Lochlyn Munro, Olivia Rose Keegan, Ruby Snowber, Savannah Lee Nassif and Sydney Park.
official synopsis | Twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs and no horror movie IP is safe. Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”), and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed.
It has also been officially confirmed that “The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.”
Parodies seem to include Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (2025), David Gordon Green’s take on the Halloween films (2018-2022), Tate Taylor’s Ma (2019), Jordan Peele’s Get Out (2017), Gerard Johnston’s M3GAN, and most significantly, Tyler Gillette and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin’s revitalisation of the originally parodied Scream franchise (2022-2026).
Scary Movie 6 hits cinemas on 12th June.
