American Idol returned for its latest season last month. As Hollywood Week is around the corner, Carrie Underwood recently took to social media to share that the audience has been less than happy with her on the show. Since then, commenters have debated just what could be going on.
American Idol Is Just About To Air ‘Hollywood Week In Music City’
Underwood first came to fame after winning the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. Since then, she has pursued a successful career in country music.
Over the years, Underwood has made appearances on the show that started it all. By 2025, she became a judge on the show, replacing singer Katy Perry.
Back in January, American Idol returned for Season 24. Underwood returned as a judge, alongside Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie.
With the new season, however, Underwood recently admitted to not always getting the warmest reception from the audience. Taking to X, she recently shared, “Spoiler alert…I get booed A LOT from our Hollywood Week audience.” She also added a flushed-face emoji.
Underwood also tagged American Idol in the caption. At the time, she didn’t share exactly why she was getting booed, or if including the show’s name was an attempt to call on the show’s producers.
Some Continued To Criticize Carrie Underwood, Others Came To Her Defense
It’s possible that the audience at the time simply didn’t agree with what Underwood had to say to contestants. That said, on social media, there was some speculation that Underwood might be finding herself in the middle of a political discourse.
Underwood has never publicly confirmed her political affiliation. However, many critics have accused her of having ties to MAGA after her performance at President Donald Trump’s inaugural ceremony for his second term.

Last year, Underwood talked about her performance, sharing that she felt it was important that people unite during times of political discourse. Speaking with People Magazine, she shared, “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
“Hollywood Week in Music City” is expected to air in two parts, on February 23 and March 2. Fans will likely learn more about the situation once these episodes air.
Political Downfall?
Taking to the comments on Underwood’s post, however, many suspected that the poor reaction could have been due to politics. However, others defended her, with some treating getting booed as a badge of honor. Some comments included:
- “You took the extra step of making sure literally everyone dislikes you. Respect.”
- “And it’s still not loud enough.”
- “Funny, I seem to recall Bill and Hillary Clinton, Joe and Jill Biden, Obama, Kamala, and many other democrats in attendance at the inauguration. The TikTok generation can’t seem to help themselves from constant herd virtue-signaling.”
- “Those boos are just jealous echoes from the audience wishing they had your talent! You’re the idol they all aspire to be. Shine on!”
- “I’ve been booing you since the inauguration.”
- “For every one boo you have 100,000 cheers.”
- “Good! The last thing you want is Hollywood thinking well of you.”
