Viewers recently saw Tony Dokoupil take over CBS Evening News, even earlier than expected. Since then, the show’s ratings have been shared. This also comes as Tony’s wife is speaking up and out as he’s recently faced criticism. So, what is she saying? Keep reading for more details.
Tony Dokoupil First Joined CBS Network Around 2016
Dokoupil became known to many for hosting CBS Mornings, with him first joining the network in 2016. Prior to this, he was also known for working with NBC News and MSNBC.
Recently, however, Dokoupil has taken over anchor duties at CBS Evening News, taking over from John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois. Originally set to make his debut on January 5, 2026, viewers first saw him on the show earlier than expected on January 3.
Since then, the ratings for Dokoupil’s official debut have come out. Citing Nielsen viewing data, The Hollywood Reporter recently shared that Dokoupil’s Monday broadcast drew in 4.37 million total viewers. This included 596,000 viewers in the key adults 25-54 demographic.
Dokoupil’s New Role Has Not Been Without Criticism
This actually appeared to give the show a bit of a boost, being up around 9% from the show’s season average of 4.02 million. It was also up 20% in the demo from a 498,500 average, which is great for the network and the timeslot.
As previously mentioned, Dokoupil’s CBS Evening News debut technically came out earlier than expected. This was done to help cover the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. However, at this time, information hasn’t been shared regarding the Saturday show’s ratings.

While the ratings improved on the season’s average, this still put it behind some of the CBS shows’ rivals. For example, ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir pulled in 8.24 million viewers. NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas also averaged 7.21 million viewers.
Dokoupil’s joining the show has also been met with backlash. As previously reported, one of Dokoupil’s recent critics included his wife’s ex, Keith Olbermann.
However, Dokoupil’s wife, MS NOW anchor Katy Tur, has also taken to social media to share her support for her spouse. On Wednesday, she shared a clip of her husband’s interview with White House Border Czar Tom Homan during an Instagram Story. She also wrote “I love this man” as a comment to a recent CBS Evening News clip where her spouse opened up about his childhood in Florida.
