A popular CBS Mornings correspondent who has covered mass shootings, hurricanes, and other natural disasters revealed that their mental health has suffered. They opened up about why they’re taking a step back from the morning program for an exciting new gig. Keep reading for all the details.
CBS Mornings Correspondent Reveals New Gig
News reporters have a tough job. They have to stay calm and reassuring, no matter what horrible news they’re telling the public. NBC News anchor Savannah Guthrie has used her reporter instincts to share messages to the person or people who may have abducted her mother. However, one CBS Mornings correspondent said that constantly reporting heavy news took a toll on their mental health.
In response, they launched an exciting new project to balance out the bad news with the good. David Begnaud has been a correspondent with CBS News for over a decade. He recently opened up to PEOPLE magazine about his mental health.
“I’ve covered more massacres and mass shootings and knocked on more doors of mothers who had their children killed at school than I can remember,” he said. “It both catapulted my career and it also just sort of made it certain that it was time for something else.”
The CBS Mornings correspondent confessed, “My soul felt depleted. I felt like I had nothing to give.” To help boost his spirit, he just launched the media company, Do Good Crew. The company spotlights positive news stories through a newsletter, podcast, and live events.

While David Begnaud hopes to report more positive news, he’s not leaving CBS Mornings entirely. He plans to continue the popular weekly “Beg-Knows America” segments.
Latest Shakeup At CBS News
The CBS News division has undergone a lot of changes in the last few months. Bari Weiss took over as editor-in-chief in October after the Paramount Global and Skydance Media merger went through. Reports surfaced around the same time that Gayle King was out at CBS Mornings when her contract is up in 2026.
Those rumors have died down a little after Bari Weiss held a staff meeting. However, buyout offers were given out the day after the meeting, resulting in several staffers leaving. Now, it seems CBS Nightly News anchor Tony Dokoupil might be on his way out next.
The former morning program co-host was promoted to sole anchor after John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois resigned. However, Tony Dokoupil isn’t bringing in the ratings the network expected.
An insider spilled to the National Enquirer the simple reason Tony Dokoupil’s days might be numbered: “It’s not working.” CBS is standing by him for now. CBS Mornings still hasn’t named a permanent replacement after the co-host’s promotion. Tell us in the comments if you think CBS News made a mistake putting Tony Dokoupil in the anchor chair.
