Chappell Roan, Femininomenon | Beaming with Pride

In the 98^th edition of Beaming with Pride (2025), we highlight “Femininomenon” performed by Grammy-winning pop singer-songwriter Chappell Roan.

So, without further ado, in the 98^th edition of Beaming with Pride (2025), we highlight “Femininomenon” performed by Chappell Roan.

👀  Ugh, that sucks! Grammy-winning pop singer/songwriter Chappell Roan (Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) confirms that boys ain’t shit (particularly online) on “Femininomenon”. Amstutz hasn’t been shy about her queerness early on in her career. “Femininomenon,” which kicks off her 2023 Grammy-nominated debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, is no different. She kicks off that breakthrough, multiplatinum album with a bang. “Femininomenon” didn’t have much impact on the pop charts but did peak at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Roan penned this feminine and phenomenal song with producer Dan Nigro.

“Femininomenon” commences with a dramatic intro that incorporates strings. After the strings catch the ears in all their glory, piano (performed by Nigro) enters the mix.  Chappell Roan shines as she serves up lovely, nuanced vocals.  Beyond her compelling lead, there are lush vocal harmonies that up the ante. Roan shares distinct, striking lyrics throughout. After the slower, dramatic, percussion-less first verse (excerpted earlier), “Femininomenon” welcomes a danceable beat, adds colorful synths, and becomes fiercer. There are plenty of playful, personality-laden moments. “Hit it like, get it hot / Make a bitch, it’s a fem,” she sings in the pre-chorus, adding memorably in the chorus, “Hit it like rom-pom-pom-pom / Get it hot like Papa John 🍕 / Make a bitch go on and on / It’s a femininomenon.” Word.  In the second verse, she continues to cry foul regarding these men, being unhappy being with them (“Lying to your friends about / How he’s such a goddamn good lover”). All told, Chappell understands that men don’t do it for her. Women, on the other hand, do! On the fun and infectious “Femininomenon”, our pop star makes it clear there is no need to invest in something (men in this case) that don’t work for you.
