Chet Hanks Throws Sobriety Shade At Shia LaBeouf

Chet Hanks is once again speaking candidly about his sobriety, this time using Shia LaBeouf as an example to drive home his point.

The son of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson has never shied away from discussing his past struggles with substance abuse. 

Now, he’s revisiting that journey amid LaBeouf’s recent arrest for alleged assault following a series of drinking outings.  

In a new social media post, the “Bratz” actor proudly reflected on his progress, explaining he was wide awake at 3:46 a.m., “full of life” and unable to sleep.

Anticipating skepticism, he admitted some viewers might assume he was high but clarified he wasn’t. He said he was making the video because he wanted to share a lot of things, including why sobriety matters.

“If I’m getting high, drinking, doing drugs, I’m a b–h. I’m a weak little b–h,” Hanks said in the Instagram reel. “I’m Shia LaBeouf getting his a– whooped in the streets. No disrespect to Shia, but I’m Shia LaBeouf, all skinny scraggly beard getting Molly wrapped in the French Quarter.”

However, in contrast, if he’s sober, he’s a better version. “I’m Shia LeBeouf again, but this time on peptides 225, sleek back hair with the full beard on the red carpet with a tuxedo,” Hanks said.

He then insisted the comparison wasn’t about ego but about illustrating the difference in the two phases.

This is not the first time Hanks has spoken about his recovery. Last year, during an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” he reflected on the journey so far and the support he received from his family.

Per The Blast, the actor revealed he is “one hundred percent sober” and has been for more than three years. Hanks expressed deep gratitude for his parents, saying they have stood by him even at the toughest times, which he was extremely grateful for. 

The 35-year-old has previously detailed his lowest moments on “The Surreal Life,” where he recalled spiraling during a three-day cocaine binge in Las Vegas.

He admitted he went without food, sleep, or even water, losing 27 pounds in the process. That experience ultimately pushed him to check into rehab and commit to long-term recovery.

Hanks’ sober comparison comes amid LaBeouf’s arrest after Mardi Gras festivities in New Orleans.

As The Blast reported, the incident unfolded just after midnight outside a bar in the French Quarter, where the “Transformers” actor was escorted out by staff for reasons that remain unclear. 

Moments later, he became entangled in a fight before paramedics were called to the scene. Although LaBeouf did not appear seriously injured, court records reveal he was detained and charged with two counts of simple battery.

Days before the incident, the former Disney star was seen partying in the city, and employees at several bars recalled his erratic behavior and described him as “inebriated.”

Hours after stepping out of jail, the former child actor appeared to return to drinking. According to The Blast, eyewitnesses saw the actor jogging away from the jail but refused to comment on it.

He stopped at a Shell gas station to buy a Gatorade, then walked nearly two miles to the Mardi Gras parade route. Along the way, he was spotted sipping a Topo Chico before heading into Cajun Mike’s Pub and Grub.

LaBeouf soon went shopping at VooDoo Mart, where he purchased a new shirt and glasses and interacted with fans. In his fresh outfit, he was photographed chugging a Paradise Park lager.

After his release, LaBeouf shared his experience behind bars, calling it “cute.”

According to The Blast, the “American Honey” actor explained that the holding area was crowded, as there were about 50 detainees since it was Fat Tuesday.

He recalled asking for a coffee and being turned down, but despite the mean response from the officers, his fellow inmates treated him well. He also recounted forming a bond with another detainee, and they shared a meal and a blanket, which he described as “intimate.”

Following LaBeouf’s run-in with the law, a judge has imposed strict conditions. At his court appearance on Thursday, Feb. 26,  LaBeouf was ordered to undergo weekly drug testing and participate in drug and alcohol treatment.
