Chevy Chase was quite irate over his N-word incident on the set of “Community” getting leaked, an eyewitness has revealed.

The veteran actor reportedly had a “full meltdown” when he discovered the leak and was worried about his career being ruined.

Director Jay Chandrasekhar shared details of the incident in Chevy Chase’s upcoming documentary from CNN.

Ahead of the debut of Chase’s documentary, “I’m Chevy Chase and You’re Not,” a snippet of it has surfaced addressing the leak of his infamous use of the N-word on the set of the comedy series “Community” in 2012.

Director Jay Chandrasekhar, who helmed several episodes of the comedy series, recalled that Chase had reacted angrily to the incident being leaked to the press.

According to the director, Chase had stormed onto the set after the leak went viral and had a “full meltdown” in front of the cast, which included Yvette Nicole Brown and Donald Glover.

“[Chase came] storming onto the set, and he goes, ‘Who f-cked me over?'” the director recalled of the incident.

“‘My career is ruined! I’m ruined!’ Like, it’s a full meltdown. ‘F-ck all of you!'” he added of the actor’s expletive-filled rant.

Narrating how it all started, Chandrasekhar claimed Chase had “said something” to his co-star Brown on the set, and she had stormed off the set after the remark.

While Chandrasekhar claimed not to have heard the exact words Chase used, reports from The Hollywood Reporter at the time stated that the actor had used the N-word while expressing his frustration with the dialogue written for his character, Pierce Hawthorne.

The report also stated that the remark was not directed at Brown or Donald Glover, who were present during the incident.

In his comments, Chandrasekhar gave the missing context as to why Brown may have reacted in the manner she did to Chase’s remark.

He claimed there was a history between the duo around race, although he didn’t give any examples of past incidents.

After Brown stormed off, Chase also followed suit. Soon, it became apparent to everyone that Brown was needed in the next scene, but she refused to come back on set without an apology.

“Chevy storms off, so the producer is like, ‘We need Yvette in the scene, right?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, she’s in the next scene.’ And he goes, ‘Well, she won’t come out unless Chevy apologizes to her,'” Chandrasekhar shared further.

However, at the time, Chase seemingly did not see the need for an apology when he returned to the set.

He also appeared to downplay his use of the N-word by referencing how he often used the word when addressing the late stand-up comedian and actor Richard Pryor while he was still alive.

“He goes, ‘You know, me and Richard Pryor, I used to call Richard Pryor the N-word, and he used to call me The Honky, and we loved each other.’ And I’m like, ‘I know, man, I love that bit.’ I said, ‘You know, can we just have a little apology?’ He goes, ‘For what?'” Chandrasekhar added about the incident.

In the aftermath of the 2012 incident, filming was temporarily shut down, and Chase was later said to have been compelled to apologize.

He ultimately exited “Community” after its fourth season, with the N-word incident believed to have played a part in his departure.

Several years later, Chase gave a scathing analysis of his experience starring in “Community” during an appearance on Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast, per Variety.

He described the comedy series as not “funny enough for me, ultimately.”

“I felt a little bit constrained. Everybody had their bits, and I thought they were all good. It just wasn’t hard-hitting enough for me,” he added.

Chase also extended the criticism to his fellow co-stars when he was asked about his character, Hawthorne.

“I didn’t mind the character,” he said. “I just felt that it was… I felt happier being alone.”

Chase added at the time, “I just didn’t want to be surrounded by that table, every day, with those people. It was too much.”
