Christine Brown Breaks Silence On Shocking Family Ties

Christine Brown proves there is still something much more shocking than her plural marriage!

The “Sister Wives” star was the first to ditch the arrangement about four years ago, and now she is back with another revelation of how deep familial ties with Kody Brown go.

Christine Brown was married to Kody Brown for eight years, during which they shared six children. The end of their marriage was hinged on Kody Brown’s strained relationship with the kids as one of the reasons.

According to the TLC star, she and her estranged husband are in fact related by blood and are “third cousins, once removed.” Christine confessed that she might have carried in her heart all these years, even during their marriage, because she was related to everyone in her church.

She shared this with David Woolley in the latest episode of the “Sister Wives” show, where she detailed just how weird plural marriages can get. As reported by PEOPLE, Christine shared that despite marrying a convert, she still could not escape the fate of getting married to a family member.

Janelle Brown, who was Christine’s co-wife to Kody, also co-signed the narrative, revealing that it was always a running joke in their family that Kody and Christine were cousins, but very distant ones.

“It wasn’t the kind of relationship where you saw each other at a family reunion. It was a very distant relationship, but they would always joke about being cousins. It’s a small community,” Janelle added.

In an earlier episode, Janelle had discussed how Kody’s father and her own mother got married a few months before she tied the knot with Kody. The reality star explained to her friends that she was fully aware of polygamy by the time she was in her high school years, before her marriage to Kody.

She continued that her talks with Kody and his family really piqued her interest in plural marriage, but her mother strongly opposed it and came to save her.

However, a plot twist Janelle did not see coming was her mother falling in love with Kody’s dad in the middle of trying to stop her and Kody from getting married. In Janelle’s words: “When they decided to get married, I was like, ‘That’s gonna be a little hard to explain, but alright.'”

A few years ago, the mother of six confessed that she did the heavy lifting when it came to mediating between Kody and the kids. She added that she often bridged the gap by constantly reassuring their children that their father loved them, even if things did not suggest that.

The Blast reported that Christine recalled promising the kids countless times that their father would spend time with them, until it became a case of the kids becoming aware that they did not have any connection with their father.

Three years after that confession, the 53-year-old left a positive review on how far the family patriarch has come with the kids. Christine noted that things had improved a bit, and it would get better as they continued to advance.

“That’s kind of an ongoing story for that. But I do believe that Kody is a good person, and I think that things are going to be better,” the mother of six continued. She also added that there are lots of issues to be worked on between the star, his children, and even herself.

The Blast shared that Christine opened up that her daughter Mykelti Brown’s problematic relationship with Kody played a primary role in her decision to move from Kody’s environment.

She noted that her daughter also bore deep resentment against her father, and she knew that Arizona had become super toxic for her, hence the relocation to Utah. Just last year, Mykelti herself addressed rumors about her stepmother, Meri Brown, displaying abusive tendencies towards Kody.

In the question and answer session on her YouTube, Mykelti revealed that while she is being cautious in confirming or denying any report, people are not far off from the truth based on their speculations.

The YouTube creator also noted that Meri was verbally and emotionally abusive to the kids when they were younger. Mykelti explained that while that whole phase is now behind them, she remains the worst hit by the episodes.

Mykelti is not the only child on that side of the family with a grudge against Kody, as Aspyn Brown also had an estranged relationship with the family patriarch. Aspyn had seemingly accused Kody of harboring a deep dislike towards her, which, according to him, was very false.

The father of 18 noted that the onus was on him to correct those kinds of notions and stop them from festering by assuring his daughters that things were indeed different with him. He emphasized that regardless of the type of botched relationship he shared with Christine, it should not have anything to do with their kids.

He then pointed an accusing finger at his ex-wife for encouraging such thoughts in the minds of Aspyn and the rest of their children. Kody insisted that Christine knew better than to let such a notion grow, but it would only fuel him more to make his kids see him as a worthy confidante and ally.
