WHITEHORSE — Yukon Premier Currie Dixon has delivered a budget with an $81.8-million deficit, the largest recorded in the territory’s history.
Dixon says his Yukon Party government, which was elected in November, inherited the results of “unsustainable spending for years” from the previous government.
He also says he’ll be launching a review looking for efficiencies.
The $2.46-billion budget for this year includes net financial debt forecasted to increase to $804 million.
Dixon says he’s asked Ottawa to raise the territory’s $1.2-billion debt limit.
The budget forecasts a return to surplus in the 2028-29 fiscal year.
More coming.
