Hobart Hurricanes Women clinched a thrilling four-wicket victory over Adelaide Strikers Women in Match 14 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 at the Bellerive Oval on Monday. Chasing 135 for the win, the Hurricanes rode on a match-defining knock from Danielle Wyatt Hodge to seal the contest with two balls to spare.

Adelaide Strikers Women, sent in to bat first, struggled for momentum early in the innings as the Hurricanes’ bowlers kept things tight. Tammy Beaumont (6 off 12) and Laura Wolvaardt (16 off 21) found it tough to break free against disciplined bowling from Linsey Smith and Nicola Carey.
The visitors looked under pressure at 42/3 before captain Tahlia McGrath lifted the tempo with a brisk 21 off 16, striking three boundaries. Bridget Patterson added vital runs with her handy 24 off 22, including a six that briefly shifted momentum.
The real impetus, however, came from Amanda Wellington, who top-scored with an impressive 33 off 21 deliveries. Her flurry of boundaries pushed the Strikers to a respectable 134/7 in their 20 overs. For the Hurricanes, Heather Graham (2/23) and Nicola Carey (2/29) delivered crucial breakthroughs, while Linsey Smith was outstanding with her economical spell of 1/11 in four overs.

The Hurricanes’ chase began positively, with Lizelle Lee striking a four and a six in her quick 12 off 12 before falling early. But the innings belonged entirely to Wyatt, who produced a masterclass in chase control.
Wyatt-Hodge remained composed throughout her 57-ball innings, crafting a superb 72 not out studded with nine boundaries. Her shot selection was impeccable, and she held the innings together even as wickets fell at the other end. Natalie Sciver-Brunt (4 off 5) and Nicola Carey (1 off 4) departed cheaply, leaving the Hurricanes at a nervy stage.
Heather Graham’s 10 off 13 and Elyse Villani’s handy 15 off 10, including a six, helped steady the chase. Later, Hayley Silver-Holmes chipped in with a crucial 11 off 7 to further ease the pressure. Despite a fiery spell from Darcie Brown—who was exceptional with figures of 4/16—the Hurricanes kept the scoreboard moving.
The match reached its climax in the final over, but Wyatt-Hodge’s calm presence ensured Hobart crossed the line with two balls remaining, finishing at 136/6. For Adelaide, Brown was sensational with a four-wicket haul that constantly threatened to derail the chase. Amanda Wellington supported well with 1/24, while Sophie Ecclestone delivered an astonishingly economical spell, conceding just 12 runs in her four overs. However, the inability to break Wyatt Hodge’s resistance proved costly as the Hurricanes sealed an important win that strengthens their position in the tournament.
