The actor spoke candidly about life, saying he is torn between wanting to change everything he has done and accepting it all as part of who he is. His reflection comes at a sensitive time as Lily Allen‘s latest project, “West End Girl,” continues to stir attention for its pointed lyrics about their split.

David Harbour and Lily Allen are separating after four years of marriage, and her songs appear to paint a picture of a relationship marked by addiction, betrayal, and an open marriage gone wrong.

Harbour is taking a hard look at life and is not shying away from tough questions. When asked whether he would change anything about the past 50 years, the actor gave a deeply reflective answer.

Harbour admitted that regret is complicated, saying “even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes” have shaped who he is. He explained that trying to rewrite even one part of his story would mean rewriting it all, and that would erase the lessons and growth that came with it.

Esquire notes that Harbour tied his thoughts back to his craft, saying that his struggles fuel his artistry. Without them, he would not have the same empathy or insight to share through his work. According to him, “If you’ve never been through anything, what do you really have to offer?”

The 50-year-old is not losing sleep over how he will be remembered. When asked about his legacy, Harbour stated that he does not think much about how people will view him after he is gone.

Drawing inspiration from a viral Mike Tyson moment, Harbour recalled the boxer telling a young interviewer that death makes legacy talk meaningless, a blunt sentiment he admits he relates to. For Harbour, what matters most is not being remembered but creating meaningful work while he is here.

He explained, “I’d love to be able to continue to tell these stories, continue to be in production, continue to be able to come out and see the joy in people’s eyes to experience something. Then the minute I die, you don’t have to talk about me ever again.”

Like it or not, part of Harbour’s legacy is now tied to having his private life laid bare in his Allen’s new album. The Blast reported that a song on “West End Girl” has stirred renewed interest in a nearly decade-old tragedy tied to his past.

One track, “P-ssy Palace,” mentions “an apartment in the West Village,” a detail that caught listeners’ attention because of its eerie link to a real-life incident. The lyrics read, “Don’t come home, I don’t want you in my bed. Go to the apartment in the West Village instead.”

ICYMI, in 2015, 29-year-old Christin Croft fell to her death from Harbour’s East Village apartment while he was away filming in Canada. At the time, police ruled the case “undetermined” but not suspicious. A note was found, though its contents were never made public.

Before Harbour’s recent reflections grabbed headlines, another twist emerged in his ongoing split drama. His former girlfriend, Alison Sudol, appeared to quietly back Allen, after her new album stirred talk of infidelity.

The Blast highlighted that when Allen shared the cover art for “West End Girl” on Instagram, Sudol dropped a line of flame emojis in the comments, a small gesture that was quickly interpreted as support. She did not publicly address the songs, but the timing of her reaction speaks volumes.

Allen and Harbour began dating in 2019, shortly after his breakup with Sudol, and tied the knot the following year in a spontaneous Las Vegas ceremony.

Long before Allen’s new project had everyone talking, the songwriter had already hinted that something was wrong. Back in January, she got candid on her “Miss Me?” podcast, revealing that she was stepping away from the spotlight to focus on her mental health.

The Blast noted that Allen spoke openly about feeling emotionally drained, admitting, “I’m finding it hard to be interested in anything.” She described the past few months as a downward spiral that left her feeling out of control despite her efforts to get back on track.

The actress also shared how her emotions had taken a physical toll, from panic attacks during a podcast event to walking out of a theater show mid-performance. At the time, Allen said she could not think about anything other than her pain.
