Davina Potratz is getting candid about the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Netflix’s hit reality series “Selling Sunset,” revealing that not everyone was treated equally, both on screen and off. In a new interview sent to The Blast by Casino.ca, the former Oppenheim Group agent opened up about her time on the show, reflecting on how some cast members received more favorable edits and opportunities than others. Potratz, who appeared in multiple seasons before stepping away from the main cast, didn’t hold back when discussing how those differences shaped the series and her experience in it.

When asked whether producers seemed to protect certain stars while leaving others more exposed, Potratz admitted that she and several castmates often noticed the imbalance. “We had many conversations about that,” she said. “It’s not about shading anybody. I want everyone to gain success and do well from the show, but I think, especially early on, certain people were more favored and others less favored, and I think that played out on the show.”

The former luxury real estate agent explained that the uneven treatment sometimes left the cast questioning why certain storylines or people were being prioritized. “That’s why we said, why is this person getting more listings? Or why is someone seemingly this perfect character, and that was a little confusing, I didn’t understand it,” she continued.

Potratz Feels Her True Personality Was Lost On ‘Selling Sunset’

Potratz also reflected on her own portrayal throughout the series, revealing that she never felt like audiences got to see her full personality. “I just feel like I wasn’t given a balanced edit. I don’t think I was treated with the same grace as the others,” she said. “I didn’t even get an introduction. No one even knew I was from Germany, and so I thought that was kind of strange. Considering I was on it for so long, it’s bizarre.”

The luxury realtor, who prides herself on her professionalism and international background, said she wished viewers could have seen more of her humor and warmth, qualities she feels were overshadowed by the show’s selective storytelling.

“It’s fine. I did the best I could with what I knew at the time. I don’t regret anything that I said and did. That was my truth, and I stand by that,” she added. “I just wish people had more context or a little bit more information about me as a person because I’m actually really funny and sweet, and I think a lot of that was lost on the show.”

Davina Potratz Explains How Editing Shapes The Drama On ‘Selling Sunset’

While “Selling Sunset” is known for its high-glamour real estate listings and larger-than-life drama, Potratz emphasized that viewers only see a fraction of what actually happens. The final edit, often trimmed down from hours of filming, can significantly alter how people and situations appear on screen.

“What happened is a full story, and then what you see is a much shorter version of that, and it’s, of course, edited down,” she explained earlier in the conversation. “I’m curious what makes the final cut… but I can’t watch the whole show, it’s draining for me.”

Potratz Believes ‘Selling Sunset’ Needs to Be More Authentic

Potratz believes the show could benefit from returning to its roots and focusing less on overproduced drama. “I think I would go back to trying to make it more authentic, just less produced,” she shared. “The show’s definitely not scripted, and it’s definitely real. But I think everybody plays this chess game and is trying to gain the audience’s approval in some way, and it just feels more produced.”

The reality star argued that “Selling Sunset” worked best when it leaned into genuine personalities and organic interactions, rather than heavily curated storylines. “No one here is really this great of an actor, as you can see,” she added with a laugh. “So it’s better when we’re just ourselves.”

Davina Potratz Says She’s Thankful For ‘Selling Sunset’ Despite The Ups And Downs

Even with its ups and downs, Potratz says she’s ultimately thankful for what the series brought to her life and career, both personally and professionally. “It was a blessing, and it was a platform,” she told Casino.ca. “If I had only done one or two seasons, it wouldn’t have been as impactful, and I wouldn’t have learned as much as I did.”

Though she may not have received the introduction she deserved, Davina Potratz’s honest reflection brings a fresh dose of authenticity to the glamorous, high-pressure world of “Selling Sunset,” serving as a reminder that behind the million-dollar listings and picture-perfect moments, reality TV doesn’t always reflect reality.
