Kojima Productions has unveiled Death Stranding Isolations, an original series based on the franchise created by founder Hideo Kojima, which will come to Disney+ in 2027.
The longtime game designer, known for the Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding franchises, revealed the project at a Disney+ event in Hong Kong alongside series director Sano Takayuki. The new Death Stranding series will be the first Kojima Productions partnership with a global streaming platform, with Kojima serving as executive producer.
According to Engadget, the series will tell a new story set within the Death Stranding universe and will not draw on any of the games’ storylines. Apparently, all that is known is that the series will follow two protagonists (a young man and woman) on some kind-of adventure. As for how it will look, Traditional hand-drawn 2D animations will be used. Concept art displayed at the event was created by Ilya Kuvshinov, the character designer for Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045.
This isn’t Kojima’s first attempt to take his Death Stranding franchise beyond games. In 2023, Kojima revealed that the production company A24 was collaborating with Kojima Productions on a live-action film project, set to be directed by Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One). Kojima is also collaborating with Niantic on an AR project, titled A New Dawn.
