PSG endured a difficult night in the Champions League as Bayern Munich maintained their superb start, and there was more frustration for Juventus.

Holders Paris Saint-Germain suffered their first defeat of this season’s Champions League and saw Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi suffer a first-half injuries as they were beaten 2-1 by Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes.

PSG had made a perfect start to their title defence with three wins from three including a thrilling victory at Barcelona.

But a rematch of the 2020 final turned into a nightmare for Luis Enrique’s men.

    Diaz damages PSG

PSG fell behind in the fourth minute when Luis Diaz fired in on the rebound after Lucas Chevalier kept out Michael Olise’s initial effort.

Dembele appeared to have levelled in the 22nd minute, only to see his goal ruled out by VAR for offside, and three minutes later the Ballon d’Or winner limped down the tunnel as his night came to a premature end.

Diaz then pounced on an uncharacteristic error from Marquinhos to make it 2-0, but the Colombian’s eventful night came to a close in first-half stoppage time when he was sent off for an awful challenge on Hakimi that led to the Morocco right-back being withdrawn.

PSG pulled one back in the second half through Joao Neves but could not complete the recovery effort.

Bayern are top of table with four wins from four in the league phase. They have won all 16 of their games this season. Arsenal are level with them on 12 points after beating Slavia Prague 3-0, while Liverpool are three points back following their 1-0 defeat of Real Madrid. Tottenham are four points behind the leaders, having stayed unbeaten in the competition with a 4-0 rout of Copenhagen.

    Juventus stay winless

Juventus have featured in some of the most entertaining games of the tournament so far but remain without a win following a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon in Luciano Spalletti’s second match in charge.

Maximiliano Araújo fired in off the post to cap a stunning team move to give Sporting an early lead, but Dusan Vlahovic’s near post finish levelled matters.

It is three draws and one defeat from four games for Juve, who are now five matches without a win in this competition stretching back to last season. That streak marks their longest such run since Juve went six without a win between April and November 2013.

Spalletti, though, was encouraged by what he witnessed.

“We had a complicated start, then this great reaction, we took the game in hand and deserved to take the lead, creating three or four good chances,” Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia.

“At the start we lost the ball too cheaply, weren’t clean enough in our passing, struggled under pressure, but in general after that the team played well.

“We took possession off them and at times were a little too frenetic with our choices, giving the ball back after winning it. We had to claw it off them with tooth and nail, whereas we gave it back to them too easily.

“I still believe this is a strong team, I am convinced that if we continue with this spirit, we will win many games.”

Atletico Madrid were comfortable 3-1 winners over Union Saint-Gilloise thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez, Conor Gallagher and Marcos Llorente, while Folarin Balogun’s finish from a tight angle proved enough for Monaco to beat 10-man Bodo/Glimt 1-0.

Napoli were held to a 0-0 draw by Eintracht Frankfurt, and there was another stalemate in Piraeus, where Ricardo Pepi struck in the 93rd minute to earn PSV Eindhoven a 1-1 draw at Olympiacos, who are still waiting for their first win.
