The alleged “inappropriate” relationship between former Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore and a woman on his football staff came more into view during his arraignment hearing on Friday, December 12.
The unnamed woman at the center of the scandal broke off their relationship — which had been going on “for years” — on Monday, December 8, Kati Rezmierski, first assistant prosecutor for Washtenaw County, said in the courtroom.
Moore, 39, joined the proceedings via Zoom from a holding area at the Washtenaw County Jail, where he has been in custody since the evening of Wednesday, December 10.
After the woman cut off their relationship, Moore allegedly sent her “numerous texts from that time moving forward that she did not answer, did not respond to, did not want.”
Rezmierski said the staff member “cooperated” in the University of Michigan’s investigation into Moore, which led to his termination on Wednesday in a one-on-one meeting with athletic director Warde Manuel.
Shortly after being fired, Rezmierski alleges Moore “barged his way into” the woman’s apartment and “grabbed several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors.”
Moore then allegedly began to “threaten his own life” in front of the woman.
After she indicated that she planned on calling the police, Moore allegedly left the residence. He was arrested shortly after by the Pittsfield Township Police Department after fleeing to a nearby church.

“The totality of the behavior is highly threatening and highly intimidating,” Rezmierski said. “She was terrorized, your Honor.”
Rezmierski argued Moore was “a risk to public safety, a risk to this victim.”
Moore was charged with one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering.
If convicted, the charges carry a maximum prison sentence of 6 years, 90 days.
The judge on Friday ordered Moore to be released on $25,000, indicating that the former head coach would be forced to wear an ankle monitor and continue mental health treatment.

“This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior,” athletic director Manuel said in a statement.
University of Michigan President Domenico Grasso sent a letter to the school’s community on Thursday, addressing Moore’s termination.
“There is absolutely no tolerance for this conduct at the University of Michigan. None,” he wrote.
Grasso continued, “I have been in close communication with the Board of Regents and we are united in committing to doing what is right. This breach of trust by Coach Moore is painful for many in our community, first and foremost, the individuals directly involved in this situation. Yet our swift and decisive action reflects the University’s staunch commitment to a campus culture of respect, integrity and accountability.”
