On the Tuesday, March 3rd episode of 1000-lb Sisters, viewers watched Amy Slaton undergo corrective eye surgery. She had a lazy eye, plus she was legally blind in one eye. This was due to ocular toxoplasmosis, and the hope was that the doctor could fix this, yet the procedure was anything but easy.
So, was it successful after all of the pain and suffering? Keep reading for more details on the aftermath.
Did Amy Slaton’s Surgery Fix Her Eyesight?
It was just ten days before Amy Slaton’s wedding to Brian Lovvorn when she met with a specialist. The 1000-lb Sisters star wanted to correct her vision, plus she had a lazy eye. As she had discussed in the past, she has ocular toxoplasmosis, which occurred when she was born. This was due to a parasite, although some followers blamed her weight for this. It also caused her to become legally blind in one eye. When she met with her doctor, she learned that she had become impaired in both eyes. The doctor agreed to do reparative surgery, and Amy was nervous.
She had no idea what to expect, and moreover, was worried that she would be completely blind. However, she tried to remain hopeful, despite the immense pain she was in leading up to her wedding. Before and after photos of Amy have been circulating, but fans think that they are AI. So, was the surgery successful? It appears that it was, as Amy recently posted a promotional photo for a meet-and-greet, and her eyes looked amazing.
Doctors also had a lot of faith that the Dixon, Kentucky, native would do incredibly well and benefit from the surgery. The operating ophthalmologist, Dr. Sean P. Donahue, shared how the procedure would happen:
“We’re going to make an incision in the skin of the eye, up on the left side, and we’ll loosen the outside muscle. We’ll then rotate the eye into the position we want it to be,” he added. “And then we’ll go over to the other side. The only thing we have to correct on the right eye is that overelevation. We’re going to correct the muscle that’s causing those eyes to drift out when she looks up and have less outward drift when she looks down.”
In a clip from next week’s episode of 1000-lb Sisters, Amy Slaton looked beautiful. Although she was still struggling with immense eye pain, she seemed to be handling the surgery and recovery very well.
Fans Remain Hopeful
After learning that Amy Slaton had undergone eye surgery, 1000-lb Sisters were eager to see the results. Then, she shared an updated snap, and they were nothing but complimentary of the mother of two:
- I cried when you were told your eye can be fixed..beyond happy for you…you look beautiful! 🖤🤗
- You look absolutely amazing with your eye being fixed. I can not believe the absolute difference it makes. I hope it has helped you feel better and I hope you start driving, it’s such an independent feeling. My brother in law has been completely blind in his left eye since he was 13, and he has always drive with no issues.
It will be amazing to see how this changes her life in the long run, as Amy Slaton admitted that this has been her biggest insecurity.
