Drew Barrymore And Martha Stewart Shut Down ‘Beef’ Rumors

When Stewart visibly reacted to Barrymore’s touch during a past episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” viewers quickly speculated that tension existed between the two.

Now, the two women are setting the record straight, not letting negative comments define them. 

In an upcoming episode of Barrymore’s long-running program, Stewart made her first appearance since the rumors sparked.

Barrymore brought up the feud allegations and pointed out to the businesswoman, saying, “People thought that we had beef — or that you had beef with me over that — and I didn’t get it. I was so surprised.”

 Stewart clarified that her reaction on TV was not from a place of hate, instead, it was her personal preference. “Oh, I just don’t like to be petted on television,” Stewart said, per People Magazine. Barrymore then responded, “Understood, Martha. I won’t pet you again.”

The lifestyle mogul made an observation as an ardent watcher of the program and has noticed how very comfortable the host gets with her guest. Stewart contrasted that feature with hers, telling the crowd, “She’s a very cozy girl, don’t you think?” before adding, “I’m not so cozy.”

The “Blended” actress admitted to the difference and joked that her touchy nature isn’t pushing anyone away, and people are drawn to Stewart’s influence and example.

She added, “It’s true, and I think you’ve given people a lot of confidence in life through maintaining being true to yourself. That’s been a very guiding light for us.”

The conversation comes almost a year after their much-talked-about TV incident, where the 84-year-old pushed the “Charlie’s Angel” actress. 

As The Blast previously reported, the interaction between the pair started off with Barrymore leaning close to Stewart and asking what makes her feel “soft and gooey.”

The “Scream” star took it a step further and playfully caressed Stewart’s arm while still pressing on what her idea of tender treatment was. 

“When you’re treated like a lady?” Barrymore asked, to which Martha simply replied, “It’s nice.” When the mom of two attempted to continue with the questions, Stewart quickly shoved off her hand, joking that she was the “wrong gender.”

The “50 First Dates” star’s hands-on attitude with her invitees has earned her criticism, and she has since admitted that keeping her space is not her strength. 

She openly expressed that her habit of sitting close to guests comes from her natural desire to connect with people. Barrymore recalled being isolated during the pandemic, which made her realize how much she values human presence. 

While she recognized that her affectionate method might not be comfortable for everyone, she now accepts it as part of who she is. “It’s not everyone’s favorite, but I’m sorry to those people,” the actress apologized. 

Although both Stewart and Barrymore have now clarified the exchange, Barrymore first spoke about it earlier in the year, per People. 

During an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen,” the “Grey Gardens” star disclosed that she believed Stewart was only teasing and that Stewart does like her.

Barrymore explained that the internet completely misread the scene and blew it out of proportion. She then revealed that early on, she wondered if the TV personality was not fond of her, but she is no longer worried, as she believes the entrepreneur likes her.

Barrymore’s overly affectionate style has also become a source of lighthearted jokes.

The Blast reported that when Meghan Markle attended her show in March to promote her Netflix series “With Love, Meghan,” she playfully teased the host about her tendency to get so close with guests.

Breaking from her own reputation for warm hugs, the Duchess of Sussex kept a little space this time, joking, “I hear you like to connect.” 

However, she quickly softened the remark, though, by taking Barrymore’s hand and adding that the “Poison Ivy” actress’s warm personality was “so sweet.”
