Robert Irwin is one of the top contenders to win Season 34 of DWTS. His mom showed him support during a ‘challenging’ week. Plus, the wildlife conservationist reveals which celebrity A-list actor gives him tougher feedback than Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough, and Bruno Tonioli.
Robert Irwin Gets Critiques From Celebrity A-Lister
Robert Irwin emerged as an early frontrunner on DWTS almost immediately. The Season 34 contestant has made it to the eighth week of competition. Just seven other celebrities stand in his way of winning the Mirrorball Trophy at this point in the competition. He’s received a lot of positive feedback from the judges this season. They’ve also shared pointers on what he could do better.
While he takes their feedback seriously, Robert Irwin relies on a famous A-list actor for the harshest critiques. He revealed to Access Hollywood that actor Russell Crowe texts him after every performance to share unfiltered feedback.
“Instead of going, ‘this was a really great dance,’ he’ll really delve into the detail of, ‘Okay these steps were great, love the lines, love the clarity in the storytelling.’ To really get that very in-depth feedback is amazing, and it means a lot,” Robert Irwin said about the actor’s feedback.
Russell Crowe grew up in Australia after moving there as a child from New Zealand. He became good friends with Robert Irwin’s late father, Steve Irwin. The famous “Crocodile Hunter” died in 2006 after an underwater injury from a stingray. Robert Irwin and his mother, Terri, praised Russell Crowe for looking after the family following Steve Irwin’s death.
Robert Irwin lives in Australia but is currently staying in Los Angeles, California, while he’s on DWTS. The move may be permanent if he finds his future wife.
His Mom Shows Support During ‘Challenging’ Week
In addition to support from the Hollywood actor, Robert Irwin has the support of his sister and mother. His older sister, Bindi, competed on DWTS a decade ago and took home the Mirrorball Trophy with her pro partner, Derek Hough. Bindi wasn’t in the audience on Halloween night, but his mother, Terri, was.
Robert Irwin had to apologize to his family earlier this season after disrobing on the dance floor. He survived Halloween Night but admitted that it was a “challenging” week learning multiple routines.
Robert Irwin took to social media to thank fans for their support and votes. “I am having the time of my LIFE, and I’m so grateful for you all. Thank you for voting – we feel your love and support as you come along on this journey… and it truly means the world to me,” he wrote.

He received a lot of support on the post, but the comment from his mom, Terri, stood out. She wrote, “I am really proud of you. You have so much respect for the art of dance. Keep up the good work!”
The Season 34 contestants compete twice on the upcoming Rock and Rock Hall of Fame night, too. Robert Irwin performs a Paso Doble to “Icky Thump” by The White Stripes. He’s also part of a team dance with Andy Richter, Alix Earle, and Elaine Hendrix. They’ll face off against Danielle Fishel, Whitney Leavitt, Jordan Chiles, and Dylan Efron.
Flavor Flav joins the judges’ table for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Night on Tuesday, November 4. Don’t miss it.
