Cineplex is making some changes to the number of Scene+ points you’ll earn on eligible purchases.
In an email sent to customers, the company outlined an overhaul of the loyalty program that will take effect on May 13, 2026. Essentially, members will earn fewer points on lower-cost purchases, but net more points on higher-ticketed items. There are also some changes to points accrued with discounted tickets for CineClub, Cineplex’s $9.99/month membership.
See below for a full breakdown of the Scene+ changes:
- Regular movie tickets (including Stars & Strollers and event cinema) — 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- Premium movie tickets (Imax, VIP, 3D, etc) — 6 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- CineClub member-priced regular tickets — 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- CineClub member-priced premium tickets (Imax, VIP, 3D, etc) — 6 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- Online booking fee ($1 for Scene+ members, waived for CineClub subscribers) — the number of Scene+ points earned will be at the same rate as the tickets purchased (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- Food and beverages (including those made at VIP theatres) — 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- Merchandise — 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
- Xscape Play Cards (Cineplex’s arcades) — 3 Scene+ points per $1 spent (previously 5 Scene+ points per $1 spent)
Until May 13, though, you’ll continue to earn points at the previous rates.
The changes were announced alongside confirmation that Tangerine Bank credit cards are joining the Scene+ program on April 20. In other recent news, Shell Canada announced last month that it’s replacing Air Miles with Scene+.
