Eddie Osefo Could Lose Law License Following Arrest

“Real Housewives of Potomac” star Wendy and Eddie Osefo are in a world of trouble following their arrest on felony fraud charges. Now, it’s being revealed that Eddie could lose his license to practice law in Washington, DC, if he’s convicted of a crime or pleads guilty to any of the pending charges against him. The news of his potential disbarment comes days after Maryland law enforcement officers accused the reality TV couple of orchestrating a scheme to defraud multiple insurance companies out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

According to a report from Us Weekly, Eddie, 41, could face consequences from the state of DC if he’s found guilty of any of the 18 offenses he was charged with, including insurance fraud, conspiracy insurance fraud, and making a false statement to a police officer.

“Most States, including D.C., do institute discipline for attorneys convicted of fraud or other crimes of moral turpitude. Typically, they wait until resolution of [the] criminal case, but in extreme cases they may ask criminal court to make not practicing law a condition of bond,” Sam Bassett, a Texas criminal defense attorney, said.

“Eddie Osefo is at risk of losing his license. A state bar agency could definitely revoke his law license, especially upon conviction,” Bassett continued, adding that “generally, a license is always subject to review or revocation upon a felony arrest or conviction.”

Criminal defense attorney John W. Day issued a similar statement, saying that Eddie’s potential conviction of a “serious crime” could cause major issues for the TV personality down the line.

“Just being charged with a felony does not automatically mean Eddie Osefo will lose his law license, but if he is convicted of or pleads guilty to a felony — or a ‘serious crime’ which could include a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude — the Washington D.C. disciplinary board can seek to impose discipline on him, which might include disbarment,” Day said.

The Blast reported on Wendy and Eddie’s unexpected arrest last week. The couple was taken into custody at their home in Finksburg, Maryland, in the late hours of October 9, booked, and released on Friday, October 10.

Us Weekly shared that Wendy and Eddie are facing a slew of charges, including seven and nine felony counts of conspiracy to commit insurance fraud, respectively.

Wendy and Eddie’s charges stem from an alleged burglary they reported in April 2024 that law enforcement officers claim never actually happened.

The Bravo veterans allegedly told police that their bedroom had been ransacked while they were on vacation and that hundreds of thousands of luxury goods were stolen in the process.

A police report noted that a damaged window screen was lying on the roof; however, officers reported other inconsistencies.

“To go in or out of that window, one has to step on the toilet. The toilet lid was down and had no debris on it,” the police report stated. “When Sheriff’s office personnel stepped onto the roof and back into the home, they tracked roof ‘grit’ back inside. The Osefos had an ADT system and a ring camera;” however, there was “no motion detected inside the residence” during Wendy and Eddie’s trip away.

Wendy and Eddie reportedly gave false statements to insurance companies, specifically Homesite, Jewelers, and Travelers Insurance, claiming several items were stolen from their property. The couple is reported to have signed documents claiming more than $452,500 in building damage and property loss.

Many of Wendy and Eddie’s Bravo co-stars have reacted to the news of their arrest, including the show’s executive producer, Andy Cohen.

“I know nothing of the charges more than you guys do,” Cohen said. “I’m really sad about this. I’m a Wendy fan, and she has been a great Housewife and a great role model.”

“I’m really thinking about her and her family,” the “Watch What Happens Live” host said.

Wendy’s “Potomac” castmate, Ashley Darby, wasn’t as forgiving with her statement, telling a DC audience on Friday, October 10, that she expected Wendy and Eddie’s downfall.

“This is just news to y’all,” she said. “Zen Wen is in the pen.”
