Eight Sleep, a sleep technology company, announced last week that it raised $50 million in funding, which will help it transition into a predictive AI company for sleep.

The New York-based company’s flagship product is called the Pod, which includes a blanket and mattress cover that adjusts temperature. It also offers a base that can elevate the bed to reduce snoring, as well as a sound system that helps users fall asleep and wake up. The Pod also tracks biometrics like sleep stages, heart rate and respiratory rate to improve sleep.

“Over time, the system learns from your body and personalizes your sleep environment to improve recovery, performance and overall health,” said Alexandra Zatarain, co-founder at Eight Sleep.

The company’s $50 million raise was led by Tether Investments. In total, Eight Sleep has raised over $250 million, and this round brings the company’s valuation to $1.5 billion.

“Eight Sleep has the potential to define the future of health tech by building intelligence that learns, scales, and evolves directly with humankind, turning advanced AI into practical, everyday insights and enhancements about core human biology,” said Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, in a statement. “By helping people better understand sleep, recovery, and long-term health, Eight Sleep is laying the groundwork for a new standard in longevity-focused technology that is truly personalized, can function in any condition, directly on-device, resilient, and aligned with how people live.”

The financing will help transition Eight Sleep from “reactive sleep optimization to predictive intelligence,” Zatarain said. The company is building a predictive AI system that aims to simulate what a person’s night will look like beforehand — based on factors like a warm room, late exercise and stress — and prepare the ideal sleep environment in advance.

Eight Sleep is also pursuing FDA clearance for the Pod, including for sleep apnea detection and mitigation.

The company’s AI models are trained on more than 1 billion hours of sleep data from people in over 35 countries. Peer-reviewed studies also show that the Pod reduces menopausal hot flashes by 56% and restores the body’s natural circadian temperature rhythm during sleep.

Ultimately, Eight Sleep aims to advance human health through better sleep, Zatarain said.

“Sleep is one of the most powerful, but historically overlooked, drivers of human health,” Zatarain stated. “It affects nearly every system in the body, including cognitive performance, metabolic health, cardiovascular recovery and longevity. Yet most people struggle to get high-quality sleep and the tools available today are often passive or reactive. Our goal is to build technology that continuously understands the body during sleep and uses AI to optimize recovery and help prevent health issues before they arise.”

Other companies focused on sleep health include Sleep.ai and Fullpower.
