During a recent interview with W Magazine, Oscar-winning actress Emma Stone addressed the rumours of whether she will be portraying the Muppets character Miss Piggy in an upcoming movie she is set to produce alongside Jennifer Lawrence.
The project, which Lawrence announced in November on the Las Culturistas podcast, is a Miss Piggy movie with Cole Escola on board as writer. Stone set the record straight in the interview by stating, “First of all, that is the biggest insult to Miss Piggy I’ve ever heard, and I will not have her name dragged through the mud like that,” adding, “Why would I play a literal star?”
She adamantly stated, “No, of course I’m not playing Miss Piggy. And neither is Jen. We pale in comparison. Are you out of your mind? Miss Piggy is playing Miss Piggy. She would be storming out right now at the mere suggestion.”
The idea for the project came during the COVID lockdowns, Lawrence revealed on The Tonight Show. She recalled that “One of my good friends, who’s not in the industry, was like… ‘Miss Piggy is a feminist icon.’ And she said, ‘It would be so funny if Miss Piggy got cancelled.’” Lawrence also went on to add that Stone is very much the creative lead on the movie, claiming that “Emma Stone is the Muppet head,” and confirmed that they both plan to appear in the movie.
There is no release date for the movie at this time.
