    Ericsson wins Paralympic bronze in super G for visual impaired

    Kalle Ericsson of Kimberley, British Columbia has won his second medal for Canada at the 2026 Paralympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo. Two days after winning the silver medal in the men’s downhill for athletes visually impaired, Ericsson won the bronze medal in the men’s super giant slalom for athletes visually impaired on Monday.

    Ericsson, who suffers from solar retinopathy (damage to the retina from exposure to solar radiation), posted a time of 1:13.29. Johannes Aigner of Austria won the gold medal with a time of 1:11.99. Giacomo Bertagnolli of Italy won the silver medal with a time of 1:12.15. Ericsson reach the podium by 1.1 seconds over Neil Simpson of Great Britain, who had a fourth place time of 1:14.39.

    In mixed wheelchair curling on Monday, Canada improved to a record of four wins and zero losses following an 11-1 win over Latvia. Canada is tied for first place with China.

    In para ice hockey, Canada trounced Japan 14-0. Dominic Cozzolino of Kitchener, Ontario and Auren Halbert of Calgary, Alberta each had hat tricks. Canada limited Japan to two shots on goal.

    Canada now has seven medals overall (one gold, three silver and three bronze). They are tied for third in the medal standings with the United States and Germany. China leads with 17 medals and Ukraine is second with 10 medals.
