Evan Bichon of North Vancouver, British Columbia won his first World Cup snowboard cross medal on Saturday. He accomplished the feat by winning the bronze medal at a World Cup event in Mount St. Anne, Quebec.
Bichon placed behind gold medalist Adam Lambert of Australia and Leon Ulbricht of Germany. In the big final, Bichon was leading for a significant portion of the race but was passed by Lambert and Ulbricht.
Bichon won the sixth elimination heat. He then placed second behind Jonas Chollet of France in the third quarterfinal heat and was second behind Julien Tomas of France in the second semifinal heat.
This was the final World Cup men’s snowboard cross event of the year. Bichon finished in 23rd place in the standings with 74 points. The Crystal Globe champion was Ulbricht with 435 points.
The final women’s World Cup snowboard cross event of the season was also in Mount St. Anne on Saturday. Charlotte Bankes of Great Britain won the gold medal, Chloe Trespeuch of France won the silver medal and Sina Siegenthaler of Switzerland won the bronze medal. The bronze medal for Bichon will giver him confidence as he prepares for the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.
